South Sudan Displacement Data - [IDPs, Returnees] - Emergency Event Tracking [IOM DTM]

South Sudan is currently facing a complex humanitarian crisis characterized by extensive internal displacements. The underlying causes of these displacement dynamics are varied and include communal clashes, land disputes, insecurity, violence, natural disasters, and cross-border movements. The situation in South Sudan remains critical as ongoing conflicts continue to exacerbate the humanitarian crisis. Immediate intervention is essential to address the urgent needs of those affected by displacement.

IOM DTM employs Event Tracking as a more rapid and localized assessment tool complementing overall efforts to report IDP and Returnee figures nationally. IOM teams access IDP/Returnee locations and consult local key informants including community representatives, local authorities or humanitarian partners and triangulate findings to provide partners with the most accurate as possible, actionable and current data.

IOM's Displacement Tracking Matrix conducts a country-wide Mobility Tracking exercise in regular intervals to update a comprehensive IDP and returnee baseline. In-between mobility tracking rounds, DTM conducts ad hoc Event Tracking assessment in order to map instances of new displacement or return in short dedicated reports. IOM teams access IDP/returnee locations and consult local key informants including community representatives, local authorities or humanitarian partners and triangulate findings to provide partners with the most accurate as possible, actionable and current data.
