This dashboard monitors the population movements in Northern Syria in non-governmental areas. The data is collected from the communities and IDP camps in the targeted area by the ACU field enumerators and triangulated with various sources like the local councils and humanitarian organizations to ensure the maximum level of accuracy. The baseline was set by cross-checking the population numbers from ACU Population Monitoring and HNAP statistics. RESIDENT POPULATION: Resident populations are individuals or households living in a location and are neither displaced nor newly returned (in the current calendar year). INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS (IDPs): individuals who have been forced to flee their location of origin to another location within Syria for at least one month. RETURNEES: are individuals who returned to their community of origin within the calendar year and have stayed for at least one month after having previously fled for at least one month. Newly INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS (N-IDPs): individuals who have been forced to flee their location of origin to another location within Syria, and at the time of the data collection, their stay in the displacement sites did not exceed one month. Departures: individuals who were not in their original locations during the data collection period and had left their locations for about a month.

The dataset contains numbers of internally displaced individuals and returnees at admin 2 level (Territories) in North Kivu province. Since November 2021, attacks by the former rebel group M 23 have resumed and increased against the congolese armed forces (FARDC) in the east of the DRC. These clashes have further intensified since March 2022, due to which the M23 seized in June 2022 the town of Bunagana located on the border with Uganda, as well as other neighboring localities in the regions of Jomba, Bweza, Kisigari and Busanza in Rutshuru territory. At the end of October 2022, the M23 extended their hold after several offensives, expanding their control over the entire Bwisha chiefdom including the territorial capital and the town of Kiwanja, with alleged plans to extend over the entire territory

The Registered IDP Area Baseline Assessment provides granular data on the number and geographic location of officially registered internally displaced people (IDPs). The data collected for the Area Baseline Assessment Round 34 reflects the up-to-date local administrative register of the IDP population as of 31 March 2024, equivalent to a total of 3,387,291 registered IDPs. Registered IDP figures were collected for 1,098 hromadas (83% of all hromadas covered in Ukrainian government-controlled areas), across 108 raions and 23 oblasts.

To gain access to this dataset, please acknowledge the Terms of Release here. The Common Operational Dataset on Population Statistics (COD-PS) from the previous reference date of 1 July 2023 was updated to a reference date of 1 May 2024. The update was achieved using the best available data and appropriate demographic methods to account for recent population dynamics resulting from ADM0 out-mobility and ADM1 net mobility, as well as fertility and mortality change.

The dataset contains IDPs, returnees at sub national level. The dataset also has reason of displacement, origin and dates of multiple displacements. The context of displacement in Mali remains complex and fluid. Movements of IDPs currently residing in the southern regions to the northern regions continue to be reported. While some have indicated that they have returned definitively, other IDPs say they travel back and forth between the place of travel and the place of origin.
