    Internally displaced persons are defined according to the 1998 Guiding Principles (http://www.internal-displacement.org/publications/1998/ocha-guiding-principles-on-internal-displacement) as people or groups of people who have been forced or obliged to flee or to leave their homes or places of habitual residence, in particular as a result of armed conflict, or to avoid the effects of armed conflict, situations of generalized violence, violations of human rights, or natural or human-made disasters and who have not crossed an international border. "People Displaced" refers to the number of people living in displacement as of the end of each year. "New Displacement" refers to the number of new cases or incidents of displacement recorded, rather than the number of people displaced. This is done because people may have been displaced more than once. Contains data from IDMC's Global Internal Displacement Database.

    IOM conducted rapid representative surveys of the general population in Ukraine to gather initial insights into internal displacement and mobility flows, and to assess local needs. While Displacement Tracking Matrix tools are being established, this general population survey will serve as a preliminary source to identify areas with high humanitarian needs and to inform the targeting of response aiming to assist the conflict-affected population. The geographical scope of the survey covers all five macro-regions (West, East, North, Center, South, and the city of Kyiv). The probabilistic sample, representative at macro-region level, was constructed through a random‐digit‐dial (RDD) approach, and 2,000 respondents aged 18 and over were interviewed using the computer assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) method. Those currently outside Ukraine were not interviewed. Population estimates assume that children travel together with their adult guardians. The estimates rely on the UNFPA population data for Ukraine, agreed upon as the common population baseline by the humanitarian community.

  • UNOSAT code: CE20220223UKR This map illustrates a satellite imagery based damage analysis within an area of interest (AOI) in the residential area of Mariupol City, Ukraine. Based on imagery collected on 14 March 2022 and 21 June 2021, analysts found that 773 out of 17,594 structures sustained visible damage in the AOI. This represents approximately 4% of the structures. Out of these, 62 are destroyed, 315 severely damaged, 321 moderately damaged and 75 possibly damaged. This includes 8 schools and 4 health facilities. This analysis is based on structures visibly damaged as of 14 March 2022 as seen in marginally degraded satellite imagery. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field.     UNOSAT code: CE20220223UKR This map illustrates a satellite imagery based building damage assessment in Irpin City, Ukraine. Based on imagery collected on 31 March 2022, analysts found that 1,060 structures sustained damage visible on the satellite imagery. Out of these, 115 are destroyed, 698 severely damaged, 187 moderately damaged and 60 possibly damaged. This includes 4 education facilities and 3 health facilities. While no complete count of buildings for Irpin is available, an open source dataset which is visibly incomplete indicates at least 3,732 structures in the area. This analysis is based on structures visibly damaged as of 31 March 2022 as seen in marginally cloudy satellite imagery. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. The RBDA divides the city into 500m x 500m cells, each of which is analyzed to determine whether or not there are damaged buildings inside the cell. Based on imagery collected on 31 March 2022 and on 25 March 2022, analysts found that 66 out of 4672 cells in western Kyiv sustained visible damage. This represents approximately 1.4% of the cells over the area. This analysis is based on structures visibly damaged as of 31 March 2022 and 25 March 2022 as seen in marginally degraded satellite imagery affected by light clouds and other limiting factors.     UNOSAT code: CE20220223UKR This map illustrates a satellite imagery based building damage assessment within an area of interest (AOI) including Bucha City, Ukraine, and a small area on the western edge. Based on imagery collected on 31 March 2022 and 20 February 2022, analysts found that 147 structures sustained damage visible in the satellite imagery. Out of these, 19 are destroyed, 72 severely damaged, 27 moderately damaged and 29 possibly damaged. This includes 3 health facilities. While no complete count of buildings for Bucha is available an open source dataset which is visibly incomplete indicates at least 2,373 structures in the area. This analysis is based on structures visibly damaged as of 31 March 2022 as seen in marginally degraded satellite imagery affected by light clouds and other limiting factors.     As the conflict in Eastern Ukraine is into its fourth year, ongoing and widespread ceasefire violations along the ‘line of contact’ and the restrictions on movement of people and goods continue to pose significant risks to civilian populations in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. 2017 and 2018 saw the conflict intensify, leading to a significant loss of lives, major concerns over the protection of civilians and significant damage to critical infrastructure. Overall, 3.4 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance and protection . It is therefore necessary to update the previous multi-sector needs assessment reports (IAVA, Trend Analysis, Winter Assessment) with a new and relevant data, and further investigate the trends of the changing humanitarian situation on the ground through both secondary data review from other humanitarian actors, as well as primary field collection of data to fill the gaps identified in the humanitarian data available. General Objective To understand and track changes in humanitarian needs of populations living in conflict affected areas in government controlled areas of Ukraine.

    UNOSAT code: CE20220223UKR This map illustrates a satellite imagery- based Rapid Damage Building Assessment (RDBA) of the Mariupolska Hromada, Ukraine. The RDBA divides the city into 500m x 500m cells, each of which is analyzed to determine whether or not there are damaged buildings inside the cell. Based on imagery collected on 03 April 2022, analysts found that 767 cells out of 3,459 sustained visible damage. This represents approximately 22% of the cells over the Hromada. This represents an increase of 6 percentage points since 26 March 2022. Note that not all 3,459 cells include buildings. Numerous craters are also visible in the fields but were not taken into account for this analysis. This analysis is based on structures visibly damaged as of 03 April 2022 as seen in marginally degraded satellite imagery affected by precipitation, seasonality, and other limiting factors.
