Methodology

The OCHA Ethiopia Access map is produced in collaboration with humanitarian partners in Ethiopia, through the national and sub-national access working groups (AccessWGs). The AccessWG is chaired by OCHA and monitors the quality of the operational environment to relief operations in Ethiopia. It follows upon any issues impacting relief personnel and operations, in collaboration with relevant authorities and security counterparts.

The AccessWG develop analysis on humanitarian access, relevant constraints, and identifies good practices and operational solutions through peer support. It aims to promote that humanitarian operations are conducted in a principled manner, working closely with aid partners and UNDSS under the “Saving Lives Together” framework. It aims to enlarge the humanitarian space in Ethiopia, building on each partner comparative advantage, and supporting the delivery of aid in the most hard-to-reach areas of Ethiopia.

Caveats / Comments

OCHA Ethiopia established the Access Unit (and the AccessWG) in May 2019, with the objective of fostering information exchange and joint situational awareness on humanitarian access issues.

Note: The Access maps and accessibility data are prepared based on the information gathered from the humanitarian partners and other reliable sources on the ground. It depicts the general situation regarding access in Ethiopia down to the woreda level during the reporting period. By the time of the publication, the conditions on the ground might have changed and this could be reflected on the next iteration.
