Methodology

The indices are derived from information reported by a series of satellites and stored in MODIS and CHIRPS. The satellites collect the information by land area, so that the result for each municipality is the median of the data over a period. The MODIS data (on which the NDVI, SIPI, ARVI and EVI vegetation indices depend) are updated in 3 different time periods (days 7-11, 17-20 and 28-31 respectively) of the current month. The CHIRPS data (on which the SPI precipitation indices depend) are updated around the 18th-22nd of the following month. With this data, contained in other datasets, categories are created.
