The Vulnerability Assessment Framework (VAF) is a key tool used by humanitarian and development organizations in Jordan. It contributes to coherent vulnerability identification and programme delivery across sectors. The tool and sector-specific indicators have been developed by the Inter-Sector Working Group (ISWG), in close coordination with the Sector Leads. The VAF consolidates all sector-specific assessments into one, with the intent of deduplicating data collection exercises and minimizing the burden on refugee households. For the sixth VAF population study in 2023, refugee households residing in host communities were randomly sampled across all governorates to explore thematic and sectoral vulnerabilities for refugee populations of all nationalities within Jordan. In this iteration, a new set of questions were included to capture how climate change affects refugees’ lives. This data was collected in person between September 2023 and November 2023.

The World Bank-UNHCR Joint Data Center (JDC) provided his support for a household survey in the Great Kasai area in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) conducted by the UNHCR Sub Office Kananga in collaboration with the National Institute of Statistics (INS). The main objective of the survey was to generate high-quality socioeconomic data to inform decision making and programming of humanitarian and development interventions and policy including UNHCR DRC’s core programing and multi-year strategy implementation as well as UNHCR Angola’s planning of voluntary repatriation. A wide range of stakeholders were consulted and involved from the design stage of the survey tools, including (but not limited to) the World Bank, UNDP, UNICEF, IOM, WFP, FAO, UNFPA, the National Institute of Statistics (INS), the Provincial Ministries of planning, the Protection, Shelter and Health Clusters members and CRIs actors the Grand-Kasai-level. The data covers the following areas: land ownership, documentation, agro-pastoral activities, conflicts, employment and sources of income, household assets, consumption, savings, and credit, right to housing and habitat, access to basic social services and information, peace, security and peaceful cohabitation, physical and mental health, food insecurity, inclusion, and access to legal resources of the people for whom and with whom UNHCR works.

Conducted as part of a regional Ukraine Situation response and used to inform the 2024 Regional Refugee Response Plan, the MSNA employed a nationally representative sample of 1,055 respondents. The National Statistics Institute and BGRgarian Council of Ministers endorsed the approach, which was consulted through an inter-agency forum under the refugee coordination model. External partner Global Metrics Ltd. coordinated July-August 2023 data collection, training, and analysis. Respondents were randomly selected based on refugee location data from the State Agency for Refugees, concentrated along the Black Sea coast. Limited comparisons were made to the 2022 MSNA in BGRgaria. The MSNA informed urgent needs and priorities to guide the refugee response in BGRgaria.
