Conflict and disaster population movement (flows) data for Türkiye. The data is the most recent available and covers a 180 day time period. Internally displaced persons are defined according to the 1998 Guiding Principles as people or groups of people who have been forced or obliged to flee or to leave their homes or places of habitual residence, in particular as a result of armed conflict, or to avoid the effects of armed conflict, situations of generalized violence, violations of human rights, or natural or human-made disasters and who have not crossed an international border. The IDMC's Event data, sourced from the Internal Displacement Updates (IDU), offers initial assessments of internal displacements reported within the last 180 days. This dataset provides provisional information that is continually updated on a daily basis, reflecting the availability of data on new displacements arising from conflicts and disasters. The finalized, carefully curated, and validated estimates are then made accessible through the Global Internal Displacement Database (GIDD). The IDU dataset comprises preliminary estimates aggregated from various publishers or sources.

On 6 February 2023 at 4:17h, local time in Türkiye (01:17 GMT), an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 hit Türkiye and northwestern Syria. It mainly affected the cities of Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kahramanmaras, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye, and Sanliurfa in southeastern Türkiye and Aleppo, Hama, Idlib, Lattakie, and Tartous governorates in northwestern Syria. The earthquake’s epicentre was 23km east of the district of Nurdagi, in Türkiye’s Gaziantep city, at a depth of 24.1km. Türkiye is vulnerable to earthquakes because it lies on several fault lines, and the 7.8 quake seems to be the strongest since 1939 On the same day, at 13:45h, local time in Türkiye, another earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 struck Türkiye. It hit four kilometres southeast of Ekinozu town in Kahraman Maras province, where the 7.8 earthquake hit hours earlier. As at 6 February, there had been at least 78 aftershocks.

The recent earthquake that struck the south of Turkey and the north of Syria on the 6th of February has caused widespread destruction and devastation in the region. Thousands of people lost their lives, and many more were injured. The aftermath of this disaster has left many families displaced and in desperate need of medical attention. In response to this crisis, the Assistance Coordination Unit (ACU) conducted a survey in health facilities in northwest Syria to assess epidemiologically earthquake-induced injuries in northwest Syria. This report aims to present this survey’s findings and provide insights into the types of injuries sustained by individuals affected by the earthquake using the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, 10th revision (ICD 10). This report highlights the urgent need for medical aid and support in the affected areas to prevent further loss of life and alleviate the suffering of those impacted by this tragic event.
