More than 900,000 Rohingya refugees are living in extremely congested camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. Since their arrival in Bangladesh, they have been dependent on humanitarian aid for their survival, including food, core-relief items, shelter and other basic services. Having provided households with initial shelter kits upon arrival, UNHCR is now supporting families providing the necessary materials to maintain their shelters and cover basic needs. From January to August 2022, UNHCR distributed Upgraded Shelter Kits (USKs) consisting of muli-type2 and borak-type* bamboo poles, rope, plastic tarpaulins, sandbags and toolkits. UNHCR conducts Post Distribution Monitoring (PDM) to collect refugees’ feedback on the quality, sufficiency, utilization, and effectiveness of the assistance we provide, which helps improve and adapt the services as per the refugees’ needs. UNHCR undertook a PDM to monitor this programme in Bangladesh in month YYYY. The PDM involved a mixed-methodology incorporating both qualitative and quantitative methods. This data is the anonymous version of the qualitative data collected using a structured household-level questionnaire.

IMPACT, in collaboration with UNHCR, conducted a sixth round of the Multi-Sector Needs Assessment (MSNA) of refugees in Iraq who live in and out of formal camps. The aim of the MSNA 2021 is to provide a household-level analysis of sector-specific needs and vulnerabilities of Syrian refugee and host community households. The MSNA 2021 sampling consists of samples of Syrian refugees in KR-I (where most Syrian refugees live), but also Anbar, Baghdad, Kirkuk and Ninewa (referred to as Centre-South, where most Syrian refugee households outside of KRI live), as well as host community households in KR-I given the high concentration of Syrian refugees in KR-I. Host communities were sampled to offer comparison and to include host communities in 3RP planning on the basis of identified needs and vulnerabilities by the MSNA. This assessment and its findings aim to support the prioritization across and within different sectors and is to be used as a basis for developing the 3RP Regional Refugee & Resilience Plan (3RP) 2022 This research sought to respond to the information need on multi-sectoral needs, movement intentions and the impact of COVID-19 on refugees’ lives, thus assisting humanitarian actors in organizing their response to protracted displacement of Syrian refugees across Iraq in the time of COVID-19.

Sudan hosts one of the largest refugee populations in Africa, with 1.14 million refugees and asylum seekers as of 30 June 2022. Persistent insecurity in countries of origin contribute to protracted refugee caseloads remaining in Sudan, as opportunities for safe, voluntary, and dignified returns are obstructed. By mid-2022, Sudan is hosting 807,532 South Sudanese refugees, primarily in White Nile (282,807), Khartoum (191,312) and East Darfur (100,065); 131,191 Eritrean refugees primarily in Kassala (103,340), Gedaref (13,840), and Khartoum (9,275) states; and 73,448 Ethiopian refugees, primarily in Gedaref (49,944), and Blue Nile (9,688) states. Other refugee population groups also include those from Burundi, Chad, Central African Republic, Congo, Yemen and Syria. Of the 1.14 million refugee population, 38% reside in camps and 62% in out-of-camp and urban settings. To ensure access to timely protection and lifesaving assistance, UNHCR and partners have delivered multi-sectoral response targeting vulnerable refugee communities across Sudan, informed and monitored partly by this Multi Sector Needs Assessment which feeds to the Country Refugee Response Plan. This study gathers information about location, documentation, livelihoods, displacement status, nutrition, access to WASH facilities, shelter, information, and accountability of refugees in Sudan. This dataset is the anonymized version of the original data.

UNHCR through REACH/IMPACT Initiative, conducted a Socio-Economic Vulnerability Assessment (SEVA) in 47 Priority Areas of Return and Reintegration (PARRs) across the country. To understand the current status of reintegration for displaced groups prior to Co-PROSPER implementation in the PARR districts, REACH/IMPACT Initiative conducted a baseline evaluation of the 50 newly selected PARR locations across four different dimensions: 1) community leadership inclusivity, 2) community relations and stability, 3) strengthening public services and equitable access, and 4) livelihood and economic outlook. Indices were created to determine a baseline for these four key objectives. The assessment covered 6,067 HH interviews in 47 PARRs and targeted refugee returnees, IDPs, IDP returnees and host communities. In addition, Neighborhood Maps (nMaps) were developed to identify key infrastructure and services in each PARR.

UNHCR conducts Post Distribution Monitoring (PDM) to collect refugees’ feedback on the quality, sufficiency, utilization, and effectiveness of the assistance we provide, which helps improve and adapt the services as per the refugees’ needs. For this PDM exercise, a mixed methodology incorporating both qualitative and quantitative methods was used. By qualitative method, FGD (Focus Group Discussion) disaggregated by gender and age were conducted with recipients of shelter material in 16 camps. 23 groups discussions for shelter material recipients took place between 03 and 20 October 2021. The PDM survey found that shelter materials distributed by UNHCR and partners generally met the declared household needs and the minimum quality standards as approved by the Bangladesh Shelter/NFI Sector in Cox's Bazar. The respondents rated the overall quality of NFI items as good with a score of 4.26 with an average 94% of respondents rating them good or very good which is a decrease of 0.14 compared to last year PDM. All shelter material items were found useful by 99.50% of respondents.

Since December 2020, the Government of Bangladesh has led the establishment of refugee facilities on the island of Bhasan Char in the Bay of Bengal and the delivery of relief services in partnership with civil society organizations. Currently nearly 27,000 Rohingya refugees live on Bhasan Char. With the continuous increase of the population on the island through relocations of Rohingya refugees from Cox’s Bazar, it has become imperative to have a more comprehensive view of the needs and capacities of the population on the island. Against this background, a joint multi-sector assessment was implemented by REACH under UNHCR leadership with the following objectives: (1) to provide a comprehensive baseline of refugee population needs on Bhasan Char; (2) to inform an evidence-based prioritisation and resource allocation to effectively plan and design programming activities around; (3) to harmonise data collection efforts to avoid duplication of efforts and resources, minimise intrusion into the lives of beneficiaries, and maintain compatibility, quality, and comparability; (4) to provide the basis for a joint multi-stakeholder needs analysis and interpretation process. The survey found that almost all households (99%) reportedly faced challenges living on Bhasan Char, and almost two thirds (62%) would not recommend a relocation from Cox’s Bazar to Bhasan Char. Furthermore, the respondents information needs were not met, which included information on how to find work (as reported by 46% of households as an information need), how to visit Cox’s Bazar (39%), how to get food (31%), and family reunification (29%), what is happening in Myanmar (23%) and possible returns to their place of origin (20%). Almost 1 in 5 households (18%) reported areas considered unsafe by women and girls in their community, most commonly WASH facilities (75%)

The UNHCR Results Monitoring Survey (RMS) is a household-level survey on persons of concern (PoC) to UNHCR directly or indirectly assisted by UNHCR, including refugees and asylum seekers, internally displaced persons, returnees, stateless and others of concern. The objective of the survey is to monitor impact and outcome level indicators on education, healthcare, livelihoods, protection concerns, shelter, and water and sanitation. The results contribute to an evidence base for reporting against UNHCR’s multi-year strategies to key stakeholders. The RMS can be implemented in any operational context. A standard structured questionnaire has been developed for the RMS, which can be conducted as a stand-alone survey or flexibly integrated with other data collection exercises. The data includes indicators collected at both the household and individual (household-member) level, and results are statistically representative. This RMS took place in South Sudan from November to December 2022. The surveyed population was IDPs in eight out of the ten states of South Sudan, with 4,630 questionnaires allocated proportionally to the displaced population. This dataset is the anonymized version of the original data.

More than 8 million refugees have fled Ukraine since the escalation of conflict on 24 February 2022. The number of people crossing fluctuated greatly in the early onset of the war in Ukraine. To understand the drivers of displacement and intentions of refugees, over 18,000 interviews were conducted with people crossing from Ukraine into Poland, Hungary, Moldova and Slovakia. Interviews were conducted at several border checkpoint and certain reception centers, and began on 28 February. Interviewees were selected purposively to gain a broader understanding of experiences and intentions, and results should therefore be considered indicative.

The 2022 Multi-Sectoral Needs Assessment (MSNA), conducted by the REACH Initiative in close collaboration with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and mandated by the Inter-cluster Coordination Group (ICCG), aims to understand the multi-sectoral and sector-specific needs, circumstances, and vulnerabilities of households across the entire territory of the Central African Republic. It also aims to understand specific needs and vulnerabilities of population groups, namely non-displaced households, returnees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) living in host communities, and IDPs living at sites. The needs assessment covers protection, health, mental health, WASH, Shelter and NFI, Education, food security, livelihoods and disabilities, as well as the perception of and satisfaction with humanitarian aid (AAP). The 2022 MSNA was conducted through a statistically representative household survey across 66 accessible sub-prefectures (admin2) out of the 72 sub-prefectures of the country. The inaccessible sub-prefectures were evaluated using a Key Informant survey. In consultation with key humanitarian partners and actors, a joint set of indicators, questions, and answer choices were developed for the assessment of needs in the context of the Central African Republic. All surveys were conducted through face-to-face interviews, using the tablet-based Kobo Collect Open Data Kit (ODK) app. Household data collection took place from July 20 to September 18, 2022. A total of 12,347 households were assessed after data cleaning. Data is statistically representative at a 92% confidence level and a +/- 10% margin of error with a buffer of 10% for the entire population on the level of sub-prefectures (admin2) and higher levels, and for specific population groups on the level of prefectures (admin1) and higher levels.

Following the change in authority in Afghanistan on 15 August 2021 and the resulting declaration of a Level 3 emergency, UNHCR introduced a rapid assessment methodology to quickly assess humanitarian and protection needs throughout the country as part of scale-up by UNHCR to respond to the unfolding crisis.  The primary focus of the assessments were IDPs and IDP returnees who account for the majority of the households interviewed in these assessments. Nonetheless, as UNHCR takes a whole-of-community approach in its assistance programme, vulnerable host community members were also assessed, alongside a small number of refugee returnees, asylum seekers and refugees, as well as deported and spontaneous returnees under an area-based approach. The Rapid Household Assessments (RHAF) covers all 34 provinces with a population of 19.8 millions (Annual Statistical Report 2021).
