Data collected in Bangladesh between June-July, 2018. Their analysis contributed to the Xchange Foundation's “The Rohingya Amongst Us”: Bangladeshi Perspectives on the Rohingya Crisis Survey. The survey sample consisted of 1,697 Bangladeshi adults living in Teknaf (56%) and Ukhia (44%), the two southernmost subdistricts of Cox’s Bazar, and home to the majority of the Rohingya population.  The survey was conducted in Bengali with the use of a questionnaire distributed through an online data collection application across more than 71 (up to 97) villages. Respondents were provided with anonymity and verbal consent was ensured before proceeding with each survey. The results of the survey are generalisable to the total adult Bangladeshi population residing in Ukhia and Teknaf upazilas (on a 95% confidence level, the margin of sampling error was 2.37). This shapefile represents digitization work carried out by UNOSAT and REACH from March-May 2019. Work is ongoing and this shapefile is reflective of digitization efforts up to 7 May 2019. As future iterations and improvements to the footprints are made, additional versions will be released. The majority of digitization work was carried out using Januray 2019 NPM-IOM drone imagery. The specific images used are provided in the attribute table. The original classification scheme developed by UNOSAT was comprised of two structure classes: "Structure" and "Bridge." An area based classification was then performed in which all polygons < 5 m2 were reclassified as "< 5m2 - Likely Latrine, Tubewell, or Shower." All polygons > 5 m2 also retained the UNOSATs original classification. Additionally, attribute fields containing camp name information, and the image source information were added. Limitations: The work has not been ground truthed and is based on expert interpretation of UAV imagery. In addition to relying on imagery interpretation, the footprints are bound by the limitations present in the UAV images that were utilized. Credits: UNOSAT- REACH, 2019

The majhee block system represents an important aspect of communities within the Rohingya refugees settled in collective or camp-like settings in Cox's Bazar district. A majhee is a community leader belonging to the Rohingya refugee population, while a block is the area for which he is responsible. The NPM majhee blocks mapping exercise was first conducted during NPM Baseline 9, between 5 and 20 February 2018. As part of the majhee interview process (key informants), enumerators walked the perimeter of each majhee block with guidance from the KI. As they walked, the field team traced their path, marking up the boundary on the tablet or paper map. Upon returning to NPM office, details of these boundaries were finalized on the paper maps. The paper maps were then received by the NPM digitizing team. This team carefully digitized the Mahjee zone perimeters in GIS, using high-resolution NPM UAV imagery as an underlying reference. Boundaries were assigned the NPM Block_ID attribute, which represents a unique identifier for each Site Assessment Location. In this manner, boundaries can be uniquely linked back to a mahjee. The majhee blocks mapping exercise is now embedded in NPM regular assessment activities (baseline and site assessment), hence regularly updated with a frequency of approximately three weeks. The majhee block system is not an official form of governance. The scope of this exercise is purely descriptive and not prescriptive. Names and boundaries adopted in this exercise do not imply official endorsement or acceptance by IOM.

Since August 2017, an estimated 728,306 Rohingya refugees have arrived in Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar District from Myanmar, bringing the total number of Rohingya refugees residing in Bangladesh to approximately 895,631. The rapid and massive increase of the refugee population, concentrated in the south of the district in Ukhia and Teknaf, has had an enormous impact on Bangladeshi host communities’ food security, economic vulnerability, market access, labour opportunities and environment. At the same time, the crisis has generated some positive impacts in terms of new labour and livelihood opportunities provided by the presence of a rapidly expanding humanitarian sector, and increased demand for goods and services by Rohingya themselves. The majority of available data on the host community populations of Ukhia and Teknaf pre-dates the current influx of refugees. While a number of post-influx assessments have included host community populations, the information they provide has significant limitations in terms of being able to serve as the basis for strategic prioritisation and decision-making. The assessment aims to identify the severity and geographical spread of acute needs within the host community population. Its primary audience is ISCG, sectors, sector partners, and humanitarian donors. In this respect, the long-term development needs of the population that are more likely to be met by government or development agency intervention are not the core focus of this assessment. Similarly, this assessment is not designed to assess the impact of the August 2016 refugee influx on the host community (though may serve as a point of triangulation for actors wishing to do so).

Recognizing an information gap within existing road network datasets in the Southern Teknaf camps of Coxs Bazar District (Camps 24-27 and Nayapara Registered Camp), REACH dispached field teams to the area for a roads and paths mapping exercise from November 14-15, 2018. Areas within and on the edges of the camps were divided into grid cells, through which REACH field teams systematically traversed all paths while carrying GPS tracking devices. This dataset was then merged with the existing OpenStreetMap (OSM) roads and paths dataset for the area to provide a comprehensive map of roads and footpaths in and around the camps for mapping and spatial analysis purposes. When present in this dataset, OpenStreetMap attributes and identifiers have been preserved. This exercise was carried out with the support of European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO)

This dataset comprises of 644 facilities that were classified as not exposed to a flood or landslide hazard within the 21 Kutupalong Refugee Camps to assess which facilities would be optimal for further shelter upgrades and reinforcement. An index was created for prioritization and of these 644 sites, 224 were identified as having optimal indicators for further site visits. Corresponding maps for these 224 sites can be found on the REACH Resource Centre or ReliefWeb. It should be noted that ALL 644 facilities not exposed to a flood or landslide hazard should be explored as viable options for awareness raising to the local Camp/Majhee populations. For further information regarding the indicators used for the analysis please see the caveats section below.

In early November, WHO initiated a joint WHO/GoB/UNFPA/UNHCR/IOM/UNICE data collection exercise of all health facilities within and near the Rohingya refugee sites, with the aim of mapping facility locations. The first version was published on the 18th November with data collected between the 8th and 12th of November. This second version is an update to the previous version and contains information collected until December 12th, 2017. However, due to the highly dynamic nature of the situation, new health facilities are still being constructed and others removed. It is therefore important to note that this may not be comprehensive or truly representative of infrastructure at the time of publication. Also note that the spatial accuracy of this dataset is at best just under 5m, which can influence the analysis of infrastructure coverage.
