The urban indicators data available here are analyzed, compiled and published by UN-Habitat’s Global Urban Observatory which supports governments, local authorities and civil society organizations to develop urban indicators, data and statistics. Urban statistics are collected through household surveys and censuses conducted by national statistics authorities. Global Urban Observatory team analyses and compiles urban indicators statistics from surveys and censuses. Additionally, Local urban observatories collect, compile and analyze urban data for national policy development. Population statistics are produced by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, World Urbanization Prospects.

This map illustrates satellite-detected damage to infrastructure and roads in a portion of the city of Deir Ez Zor, Syrian Arab Republic and is derived from a full UNOSAT analysis of damage to Deir Ez Zor in 2017. Using satellite imagery acquired 9 November 2017, UNITAR - UNOSAT identified 6 destroyed bridges, 54 damaged road segments and 93 visible impact craters affecting roads. Approximately 169 structures corresponding to educational facilities, and 21 structures likely related to health facilities are also affected. UNOSAT analysis shows that there are 3 destroyed electricity towers south of the city. Note that sources of infrastructure data include various open source datasets which are likely incomplete, as well as visual review of satellite imagery by UNOSAT for certain features like towers. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to UNITAR - UNOSAT.

This dataset contains detailed Global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) data for 110 countries. The Global MPI reflects the combined simultaneous disadvantages poor people experience across different areas of their lives, including education, health and living standards. If people are deprived in at least one-third of ten weighted indicators, they are identified as multi-dimensionally poor. For further information on the MPI visit: http://www.ophi.org.uk/multidimensional-poverty-index/ The dataset includes main MPI results for each country, the proportion of people who are MPI poor and experience deprivations in each indicator of poverty, the percentage contribution of deprivations to the MPI for each country, and other measures of poverty and wellbeing at the national level. It is an appendix to OPHI's Methodological Note – Winter 2014/2015 (http://www.ophi.org.uk/multidimensional-poverty-index/mpi-2014-2015/mpi-methodology/) Please cite the data as: Alkire, S., Conconi, A., Robles, G. and Seth, S. Kenya’s commitment to close down Dadaab by mid-2017, the world’s largest refugee camp hosting over 300,000 Somalis, is putting increasing pressure on service delivery and infrastructure in Somalia. By October 2016, an estimate of 31,226 Somali people have returned from Kenya, the majority of which are heading to Kismayo, Baidoa, Luuq and Mogadishu. While the caseload of returnees is expected to continue growing over the coming months, there is no clear understanding of movement patterns of returnees or internally displaced persons which further complicates the attempts by humanitarian organisations to provide for required services. The absence of a CCCM cluster in Somalia means that information on humanitarian needs and gaps has been limited to ad-hoc and un-coordinated assessments. The Kismayo IDP settlement assessment was triggered as a result of the need for a multi-cluster, area-based and coordinated information approach for humanitarian planning and service delivery in informal IDP settlements in Somalia. The Kismayo IDP Settlement Assessment was carried out with financial support from USAID-OFDA and ECHO and in close collaboration with clusters (WASH, Shelter & NFIs, Education, Food Security, Health, Nutrition and Protection).
