This dashboard monitors the population movements in Northern Syria in non-governmental areas. The data is collected from # communities and # IDP camps in the targeted area by the ACU field enumerators and triangulated with various sources like the local councils and humanitarian organizations to ensure the maximum level of accuracy. The baseline was set by cross-checking the population numbers from ACU Population Monitoring and HNAP statistics. RESIDENT POPULATION: Resident populations are individuals or households living in a location and are neither displaced nor newly returned (in the current calendar year). INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS (IDPs): individuals who have been forced to flee their location of origin to another location within Syria for at least one month. RETURNEES: are individuals who returned to their community of origin within the calendar year and have stayed for at least one month after having previously fled for at least one month. Newly INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS (N-IDPs): individuals who have been forced to flee their location of origin to another location within Syria, and at the time of the data collection, their stay in the displacement sites did not exceed one month. Departures: individuals who were not in their original locations during the data collection period and had left their locations for about a month.

Findings presented in this data set are based on data collected by REACH as part of a rapid camps and sites assessment to provide insight on: How many new IDP arrivals are arriving to camps, informal settlements, collective centres, or transit reception centres reported at the site level since Dec. 18th Movement intentions of the new IDP arrivals in the coming two weeks Identify priority needed items by sector of the new IDP arrivals. Data was collected in 150 communities across eight sub-districts in Northern Idleb and Western Aleppo from 25 to 27 December 2019 through REACH enumerators who surveyed one Key Informant (KI) per community on internally displaced persons' (IDPs) camps and sites nearest to their community. In order to qualify as camp or site, a site had to have 5 or more IDP households living on its premises. 1,253 camps and sites were assessed across 150 communities. IDP numbers solely represent newly arrived IDPs (5 or more HH) to planned camps, informal settlements, collective centres, and transit reception centres, and do not account for total camp or site IDP populations or IDPs within the host communities. The definition of IDPs used by enumerators for this assessment was ‘Individuals or groups of people who have been forced to leave their homes or places of habitual residence, in particular as a result of or in order to avoid the effects of armed conflict, situations of generalised violence, violations of human rights, or natural or man-made disasters, and who have not crossed an international border'. The definition of planned camp was 'A planned camp is a place where IPDs find accomodation on purpose-built sites, where service infrastructure is provided and distribution take place. The camp is established by an accountable humanitarian actor and to the extent possible, meet the minimum SPHERE standards'. The definition of informal settlements was 'Otherwise known as a self-settled camp or a spontaneous site, hosting 5 or more IDP households. IDPs may settle in a camp that is independent of assistance from the government or humanitarian community. They are a group of tented, or other types of housing units, or unfinished buildings established by IDPs themselves or by non-experienced actors, often erected on land that the occupants have no legal claim to. IDPs intend to stay in this location for an extended period of time. At the moment, most of the so-called IDP camps in Syria fall under this category. ' The definition of collective centres was 'A pre-existing building or other structure used to host 5 or more IDP households, e.g. public buildings, schools, mosques, private collective building' The definition of transit reception centres was 'Otherwise known as transit camps, they provide temporary accomodation for displaced persons pending transfer to a suitable, safe, longer term camp, or at the end of an operation as a staging point of return. Reception/transit centres are usually either intermediate or short-term installations. These sites are often established during extremely large displacements.' Information should be considered as reflective of the situation at the time of data collection, given the dynamic situation in the region. In addition, information should be considered as indicative, and not representative, of the situation.

The IMU of the ACU, issues its fourth edition of the “Winter Needs in the Northern Syrian Camps” report, addressing 680 camps in the governorates of Aleppo and Idleb. The report brings to light the most important items that IDPs are in need for in terms of type and quantities, according to international standards for humanitarian response. It furthermore, brings emphasis to bear on the course of action that IDPs, as well as the camp management teams, should follow to drive down the effects of natural disasters that may put their lives at risk. Noting that the number of families that ACU enumerators were able to assess their needs reached 156,873 families, making up an overall individual number of 872,082 IDPs

On 26 December 2018, exceptionally heavy rainfall caused severe flash flooding in Idleb and Aleppo governorates in north-west Syria. This area has a high proportion of displaced people and concentration of camps and sites, making it a region with a notably large vulnerable population. Hundreds of tents were reportedly swept away and concrete houses in camps collapsed. As a result of the flooding, thousands of people have been impacted

Idleb governorate and the surrounding opposition-held areas of western Aleppo and north-western Hama governorates* host one of the largest IDP populations in Syria. Since late 2017, following an escalation of violence in north-western and southern Syria, the region has witnessed the further arrival of a substantial number of IDPs. Large cross-line displacements from Eastern Ghouta, northern Homs and southern Hama, as well as Da'ra and Quneitra governorates, beginning in March 2018, have led to a significant increase of the IDP population in the region and to a growing strain on resources and services in the region. While humanitarian assistance is reaching both IDP and resident populations, major gaps remain. In order to address such gaps, REACH has conducted a needs assessment to inform humanitarian actors of IDP and resident populations' priority needs and to address critical information gaps on the humanitarian conditions of IDPs and residents living in communities in the region. This data set provides the findings from this assessment. Findings presented in this data set are based on data collected by REACH as part of a needs assessment focused on IDP and resident populations living in communities of Idleb governorate and surrounding areas. Data was collected in 362 communities across 30 sub-districts between 12 and 20 August 2018. Data was collected at the community level, with enumerators interviewing between 2 and 7 key informants (KIs) per community and with KIs selected based on their knowledge of IDP and resident populations in the community and sector-specific expertise. Communities were assessed based on available data on total populations, focusing on those reported to have large IDP and resident populations and those that have received a high number of IDP arrivals in the two months prior to the start of data collection. Collected primary data was further triangulated through available secondary sources.
