The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has developed a monitoring system in 26 food crisis countries to better understand the impacts of various shocks on agricultural livelihoods, food security and local value chains. The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households and key informants (including agricultural inputs vendors, food traders and agriculture extension officers) on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). Data are mainly collected through Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI). In-person surveys are conducted where the circumstances allow for field access. As the system is developed, the information collected and analyzed is being used to guide strategic decisions, to design programmes and to inform analytical processes such as the Integrated Phase Classification (IPC) and the Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO). At the core of the system is a standardized household questionnaire administered to around 100,000 households per year across the 26 countries. Standardization permits comparisons across time and space, considerably enhancing the utility of the data for decision makers. At minimum the household data are representative at Admin 1 level (e.g. province, or region) and in some cases at Admin 2 level (e.g. district). Core funding for this initiative comes from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The initiative also benefits from support from the European Union and FAO’s Special Fund for Emergency and Rehabilitation (SFERA). The contents of the work are the sole responsibility of FAO and do not necessarily reflect the views of USAID, the United States Government or the European Union. In each aggregated field, the values indicate the frequencies of the different responses, expressed as a weighted percentage of the total sample. The present datasets represents aggregated data referring to household interviews performed after December 2022. At every new survey data release, after cleaning and validation phases, aggregated data is appended to the present dataset. For real-time updates, for accessing archived data and for additional survey-specific information, please visit the DIEM Hub: https://data-in-emergencies.fao.org/ View the column descriptions here. The Who does What Where (3W) is a core humanitarian coordination dataset. It is critical to know where humanitarian organizations are working and what they are doing in order to identify gaps and plan for future humanitarian response. This dataset includes a list of humanitarian organizations operating in Burundi at Admin 1.

Humanitarian Situation Monitoring aims to collect and then triangulate information regarding service provision, sectoral needs, and vulnerabilities in Afghan communities, in order to then support geographical and sectoral prioritizations within the 2022 humanitarian response in Afghanistan, particularly in light of the rapidly evolving context in Afghanistan. The key-informant-based HSM methodology uses settlements as the unit of analysis, using a structured survey tool to interview key informants about the situation in their settlement. A sampling frame covering all 401 districts in Afghanistan was used, covering a minimum of 10% of total settlements in each district. To achieve geographical spread across each district, at least three key informant interviews (KIIs), in a number proportionate to the number of settlements, were conducted in each Basic Service Unit (BSU). To determine a BSU (defined as an economic/geographic service unit which relies on the same services, i.e. healthcare clinics and schools, and common public spaces, i.e. markets and roads), participatory mapping of settlements and services available was conducted prior to data collection. Any analysis conducted using the data in this file will generate statistically non-representative results, as the key informant methodology is indicative.

The HSM Pilot aims to monitor how the needs in the districts that were assessed under the Whole of Afghanistan Assessment (WoAA 2021) are evolving under the rapidly changing context in Afghanistan, whilst providing sufficient longitudinal data to allow for the development of an analytical framework that would allow a regular monitoring of humanitarian needs. This pilot is a one-time assessment designed to demonstrate the utility of a broader HSM designed and led by the humanitarian response in Afghanistan. HSM would aim to inform both the geographical and sectoral prioritization to inform a tailored and evidence-based response. To determine the assessment framework, an adapted Hard to Reach (HtR) methodology was used. At least three key informant interviews (KIIs), in a number proportionate to the number of settlements, were conducted in each Basic Service Unit (BSU). To determine a BSU, participatory mapping of settlements and services available were conducted prior to data collection. Key informant networks were developed to cover the entirety of selected districts, stratifying each district’s network by BSU to ensure a minimum of 3 KIs per BSU, each with information covering a different settlement than the others. Any analysis conducted using the data in this file would generate statistically non-representative results, as the key informant methodology is indicative.

Emergency Trends Tracking (ETT) is a crisis-based tool that tracks sudden displacement triggered by specific events or emerging crises. The objective of ETT is to help prioritize humanitarian response and to enable partners to deliver rapid assistance. Based on previous drought induced displacement patterns, and the ones observed since the beginning of the drought, the humanitarian community expects that people will move from rural to urban areas in search of humanitarian services. Consequently, this ETT tool which concentrates only on drought induced displacements, focuses on the main urban centers and surrounding villages for each district. The data is collected through Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) at the location level, from Sunday to Wednesday every week. All locations assessed are monitored each week.

This dataset is part of the data series [?]: HDX - COVID-19 Subnational Cases
This dataset contains the number of confirmed cases, recoveries and deaths by country and subnational region due to the Coronavirus pandemic in Europe. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 crisis, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) has been supporting the European Commission in multidisciplinary areas to understand the COVID-19 emergency, anticipate its impacts, and support contingency planning. This data provides an overview of the monitoring in the area of the 34 UCPM Participating States plus Switzerland related to sub-national data (admin level 1) on numbers of contagious and fatalities by COVID-19, collected directly from the National Authoritative sources (National monitoring websites, when available). The sub-national granularity of the data allows to have a fit-for-purpose model to early capture the local spread and response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The data is maintained on the JRC COVID-19 Github Repository
