We have provided the 3 word addresses of each health centre within the West African Region. what3words is a simple, real-time, location referencing system which solves many of the key logistical issues facing aid and humanitarian organisations, for whom street addresses, GPS co-ordinates, and other systems don't exist or are problematic. Using words means non-technical people can find any location more accurately and most importantly, communicate it more quickly, more easily and with less ambiguity than any other system. For more information, to get our API or batch encode your coordinates visit http://www.developer.what3words.com

The dataset is based on the assessments and Health Resources Availability and Mapping (HeRAM) carried out by World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with health cluster partners during different emergencies in Pakistan. Please note that it is not necessary that the assessment covered all the health facilities in a particular district. These have now been provided with a 3 word address so those on the ground can communicate the location of each facility.

This map illustrates satellite-detected damage to infrastructure and roads in a portion of the city of Deir Ez Zor, Syrian Arab Republic and is derived from a full UNOSAT analysis of damage to Deir Ez Zor in 2017. Using satellite imagery acquired 9 November 2017, UNITAR - UNOSAT identified 6 destroyed bridges, 54 damaged road segments and 93 visible impact craters affecting roads. Approximately 169 structures corresponding to educational facilities, and 21 structures likely related to health facilities are also affected. UNOSAT analysis shows that there are 3 destroyed electricity towers south of the city. Note that sources of infrastructure data include various open source datasets which are likely incomplete, as well as visual review of satellite imagery by UNOSAT for certain features like towers. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to UNITAR - UNOSAT.

Kenya’s commitment to close down Dadaab by mid-2017, the world’s largest refugee camp hosting over 300,000 Somalis, is putting increasing pressure on service delivery and infrastructure in Somalia. By October 2016, an estimate of 31,226 Somali people have returned from Kenya, the majority of which are heading to Kismayo, Baidoa, Luuq and Mogadishu. While the caseload of returnees is expected to continue growing over the coming months, there is no clear understanding of movement patterns of returnees or internally displaced persons which further complicates the attempts by humanitarian organisations to provide for required services. The absence of a CCCM cluster in Somalia means that information on humanitarian needs and gaps has been limited to ad-hoc and un-coordinated assessments. The Kismayo IDP settlement assessment was triggered as a result of the need for a multi-cluster, area-based and coordinated information approach for humanitarian planning and service delivery in informal IDP settlements in Somalia. The Kismayo IDP Settlement Assessment was carried out with financial support from USAID-OFDA and ECHO and in close collaboration with clusters (WASH, Shelter & NFIs, Education, Food Security, Health, Nutrition and Protection).
