Data is collected in 1,664 communities across 105 sub-districts and 7 Governorates throughout Syria. Data collection and analysis take place on a monthly basis, with questionnaires distributed to all participants or enumerators at the beginning of each month. Questionnaires are completed over the course of two to three weeks by contacting Key Informants (KIs) to gather information about their area of knowledge. Once data collection is completed, data is translated, cleaned, and prepared for analysis. Averages for continuous variables are identified, while confidence levels are used for instances where multiple records have been submitted for the same village or neighbourhood. Data collected is triangulated with secondary data from multiple sources. As data collected via KIs, it should be considered only as indicative of the humanitarian situation in the time period assessed.

The market monitoring system was developed by the Cash-Based Responses Technical Working Group and REACH Turkey, after the CBR – TWG identified that monitoring markets on a regular basis in Syria was key to understand how markets function and cope with the challenges brought by the conflict, as well as with rough climate conditions. The market monitoring system also aims at informing program design to utilise existing markets, notably through cash-based responses and food assistance, to promote beneficiary empowerment and cost efficiency. Field staff will monitor prices and stock levels of basic commodities in markets in northern Syria on a monthly basis to inform and guide cash and voucher programs, as well as food assistance, for populations relying on the assessed markets. Resources August 2015 Credit The Market Assessment was carried out by partner organizations of the CBR - TWG and REACH, following an initiative launched by the Cash-Based Responses - Technical Working Group. This project is being funded by OFDA.

This assessment was conducted as a follow-up monitoring exercise to the initial shelter and WASH needs assessment conducted in December 2013 and the first shelter and WASH response monitoring assessment in March 2014. The purpose was to understand remaining needs of the affected population, the differing needs of vulnerable groups and outcomes of the shelter sector response. There was a strong focus on assessing the extent to which households were living in safe and adequate dwellings based on shelter recover guidelines developed by the cluster. This information is critical for the humanitarian community and more specifically, the shelter sector, to understand gaps in current assistance, progress in reference to the Strategic Response Plan (SRP) and the extent to which the affected population is ready to move into the recovery phase. The assessment was conducted by REACH as part of its partnership with the Global Shelter Cluster. In the Philippines, the shelter cluster is led by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and supported by the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in natural disasters and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in conflict as cluster co-leads.

This Multi-Sector Needs Assessment provides an overview of the humanitarian needs of conflict-affect populations across Libya. Data was collected from 20 targeted locations, through household interviews, key informant interviews and focus group discussions. Assessment locations were purposively selected by partners to the assessment to provide nationwide coverage, and to allow for comparisons with an earlier inter-agency needs assessment, conducted in November/ December 2014, which focused on displacement trends and food security. The assessment was conducted by REACH and JMW Consulting, together with local partner Diwan Market Research in order to address information gaps and inform the 2015 Libya Humanitarian Appeal, at the request of WFP and the Humanitarian Country Team including UNOCHA, UNHCR, IOM, UNICEF, UNDP and UNFPA. All partner agencies contributing to the development of the questionnaires and the review and validation of findings through joint analysis.

In June 2016, a third round of the MSNA updates was initiated by REACH, supported by ECHO, following the February 2016 update to the MSNA baseline. This assessment draws on community level data, collected from “People with Knowledge” (PwK). Findings indicate that the situation of some population groups remains challenging, with prevalent threats to personal safety and security reported in certain locations in addition to unaffordable basic needs, weakened WASH infrastructure, and restricted access to livelihoods and liquidity in some areas.

This population count of Za'atari Refugee Camp, Jordan, provides information about the camp's current inhabitants, disaggregated by age, sex, block and district, date of arrival, area of origin and shelter type. The count was conducted by REACH in partnership with UNICEF, between December 2014 to January 2015, in order to provide up to date figures about the camp's inhabitants to influence the planning and delivery of assistance by humanitarian actors. The population count shows a total population of 78,086 Syrian refugees present in Za’atari. This is 7,954 less than the last population count of Za’atari camp, conducted in June 2014, which identified 86,040 people. You can explore this dataset further using the Za'atari Camp Population Count Interactive Dashboard. In October, November and December 2016, a comprehensive mixed qualitative verification exercise was undertaken in Afghanistan. A secondary data review of assessment data identifying IDPs displaced between the 1st of January 2014 and 1st of March 2016 allowed an estimate of nationwide prolonged IDP locations and population. Field teams then verified through key informant interviews, data requests and field visits to verify the populations found at each location, and snowballed to widen the geographic coverage. The final dataset presented here is the list of locations verified, with estimated populations.

On the 26th of October 2015, a large scale earthquake caused shelter damage throughout much of northern and central Afghanistan. During August 2016, the REACH Initiative (supported by ACTED, AfghanAid and People in Need) conducted a shelter response evaluation in 3 districts of Afghanistan on behalf of the Shelter Cluster. The aim of the assessment was to evaluate shelter interventions and locate possible intervention gaps in order to inform the shelter cluster of Afghanistan of the current shelter context and needs of earthquake affected families. The assessment consisted of three specific areas of investigation: 1. To monitor change in sheltering conditions for families 2. To evaluate the value of various shelter interventions in allowing families to recover and to identify possible gaps 3. To determine recovery limitations and successes relating to vulnerable groups
