The Mobility Tracking Matrix (MTM) is a system that tracks and monitors population mobility and displacement. MTM is adapted to the context in Kazakhstan based on IOM’s Global Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) methodology. DTM is designed to regularly and systematically capture, process, and disseminate information to provide a better understanding of the movements and evolving needs of mobile population groups, whether on-site or en route.

The CoRA employs a multi-sectoral location-level assessment (MSLA) methodology conducted with local authority key informants at the settlement or city-raion level. The assessment is based on 20 indicators divided into five ‘drivers’: (1) livelihoods, (2) utilities and services (3) residential destruction, (4) safety and security, and (5) public life. The indicators describe the critical or minimum conditions required for sustainable return and reintegration in Ukraine. The scores of each indicator and driver are grouped into three categories: low, medium, and high severity of living conditions. For more information on the methodology, please refer to the full report. When requesting the dataset, please specify if you would like to receive the report as well.

IOM Ukraine's Frontline Population Baseline Assessment provides population estimates, with sex, age and disability disaggregation, as well as primary humanitarian needs, for selected settlements within 25 km of the frontline. With each biweekly round of data collection, additional settlements are assessed to provide a baseline for humanitarian scenario-planning and prepositioning of humanitarian assistance. IOM Ukraine also conducts continuous flow monitoring to provide data on displacement from selected settlements undergoing evacuation to provide humanitarian partners with data on the direction and scale of movements. The settlements assessed in the flow monitoring assessment are selected based on the presence of official evacuation orders, population size, and past observed displacement flows. The current dataset contains population baseline estimated for 552 settlements and flow monitoring information from 105 settlements pertaining to the on-going evacuations between 16-31 May in Sumska, Kharkivska, Donetska, and Khersonska Oblasts.

In response to the Somalia’s severe drought beginning in November 2021, DTM Somalia launched an Emergency Trends Tracking (ETT) tool first in Gedo and Bay regions in 2022, and subsequently in Hiraan, Banadir and Middle Shabelle regions in 2023 to monitor drought related displacement trends and hotspots in support of operational planning. However, during the first half of 2023, conflict and flooding displacements have been significant. Therefore, DTM restructured its ETT tool to capture multi-shock displacements (drought, flood, conflict and other) from October 2023. In April 2024, ETT was conducted to monitor displacements movements during the Gu rainy season. ETT is a crisis-based tool that tracks sudden displacement triggered by specific events or emerging crises. The objective of ETT is to help prioritize humanitarian response and to enable partners to deliver rapid assistance.

List of urban and rural settlements in Somalia collected through DTM Baseline 2 (B2) exercise. B2 is a component of the Mobility Tracking which aims to quantify presence of population categories, reasons for displacement, length of displacement and needs within defined locations at a given time. The settlement location is collected through GPS devices. Disclaimer: information on settlement type is still being verified. Settlements in Galmudug and Banadir regions may be revised in the coming months due to final data checks.

This latest round of Emergency Trends Tracking was initiated in April 2024 to monitor displacements movements during the Gu rainy season. Districts covered in this round include Afgooye, Afmadow, Baardheere, Baidoa, Balcad, Belet Weyne, Dayniile, Gaalkacyo, Garoowe, Hodan, Jamaame, Jowhar, Kahda, Kismaayo, Luuq. ETT is a crisis-based tool that tracks sudden displacement triggered by specific events or emerging crises. The objective of ETT is to help prioritize humanitarian response and to enable partners to deliver rapid assistance. Based on previous shock induced displacement patterns, the humanitarian community expects that people will continue to move toward urban areas in search of humanitarian services. Consequently, the ETT coverage focuses on the main urban centers and surrounding villages for each assessed district. The data is collected through Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) at the location level, from Sunday to Wednesday every week. It includes information on new arrivals, numbers and demographic of IDPs, reasons for displacement, intentions, humanitarian assistance and priority needs among others. The ETT tool also adapts to regional contexts: because of the very high number of IDP sites in Khada and Daynile districts in Banadir region and in Baidoa district in Bay region, a zonal approach has been adopted for these areas. Each week, KIIs are first conducted at the zone level to indicate to the field teams which locations have received the most new arrivals and which need to be assessed. To facilitate the joint analysis of the CCCM (Camp Coordination and Camp Management) Cluster’s New Arrivals Tracker (NAT) and ETT data, the assistance and needs indicators are identical in both tools.
