This report explores food insecurity in Nigeria in the context of urbanization and demographic change. A comparison of changing acute food security measures (IPC) from January and February 2010-2018 accompanies the report. The authors, Jordan Burnett, Leah Nadel, Victoria Santiago, and Arline Tarazona, completed their research in partial fulfillment of Public Health coursework in Medical Geography, for Spring 2018, at Drew University. Dr. Lisa Jordan edited the report and supplemented their work with additional spatial data.
July precipitation anomalies from 2013–2016 for Sudan and South Sudan, which may have negatively affected agrarian populations during the lean season, are generated from NASA TRMM/TMPA 3P43 (Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission/Multi-Satellite Precipitation Analysis). These anomalies are available to analyze in relation local population estimates (WorldPop), reported conflict events and fatalities (Armed Conflict Locations and Events Data Project), food security classification (Integrated Phase Classification, Famine Early Warning Systems Network), and other sources for measuring crop access to water (Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Station data).
Data were compiled by Maimouna Kante and Lisa Jordan.
This report considers present and recent past food security assessments for Afghanistan in the context of hydrology, climate change and conflict. Population comparisons by data source (UN OCHA, LandScan, WorldPop, and Gridded Population of the World) and rainfall anomalies from 2013-2016 accompany the report. The authors, Zainab al Badri, Atia Curtiss, and Zoe Garcia, completed their research in partial fulfillment of Public Health coursework in Medical Geography, for Spring 2017, at Drew University. Dr. Lisa Jordan edited the report and supplemented their work with additional spatial data.
The data set includes the Admin1 boundaries and population estimates summarized from three sources as separate attributes: LandScan (2015), WorldPop (2010, 2015, and 2020), and Gridded Population of the World, version 4 (2015, 2020). The IPC Food Insecurity Phase Classification for Near and Medium Term (2017) are also included as attributes.
