Data are collected through key informant interviews with kheseg leaders , who are well-informed about their communities, resources and local context.

Early 2023, after five consecutive failed rainy seasons, most of the country is experiencing severe drought conditions. Based on previous and current drought induced displacement patterns, people will continue to move from rural to urban areas in search of humanitarian services. In order to monitor drought related displacement, DTM has deployed its Emergency Trend Tracking tool since February 2022.

In early November 2020, conflict broke out in the north of Ethiopia and this has displaced many from their homes. From 11 December — 14 January 2021, the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) deployed its Emergecny Site Assessment to capture internal displacement related to the Northern Ethiopia Crisis. This multisectoral location assessment assesses the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and collects basic information on the multisectoral needs of IDPs at site level.

MTM verified Baseline Mobility Assessment data through phone calls with key informants in Kazakhstan to track mobility of migrant workers. MTM enables IOM and its partners to maximize resources, set priorities, and deliver better-targeted, evidence-based, mobilitysensitive and sustainable humanitarian assistance and development programming.

Emergency Trends Tracking (ETT) is a crisis-based tool that tracks sudden displacement triggered by specific events or emerging crises. The objective of ETT is to help prioritize humanitarian response and to enable partners to deliver rapid assistance. Based on previous drought induced displacement patterns, and the ones observed since the beginning of the drought, the humanitarian community expects that people will move from rural to urban areas in search of humanitarian services. Consequently, this ETT tool which concentrates only on drought induced displacements, focuses on the main urban centers and surrounding villages for each district. The data is collected through Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) at the location level, from Sunday to Wednesday every week. All locations assessed are monitored each week.
