What is Data Grid Completeness?
Data Grid Completeness defines a set of core data that are essential for preparedness and emergency response. For select countries, the HDX Team and trusted partners evaluate datasets available on HDX and add those meeting the definition of a core data category to the Data Grid Completeness board above. Please help us improve this feature by sending your feedback to hdx@un.org.

Sudan hosts one of the largest refugee populations in Africa, with 1.14 million refugees and asylum seekers as of 30 June 2022. Persistent insecurity in countries of origin contribute to protracted refugee caseloads remaining in Sudan, as opportunities for safe, voluntary, and dignified returns are obstructed. By mid-2022, Sudan is hosting 807,532 South Sudanese refugees, primarily in White Nile (282,807), Khartoum (191,312) and East Darfur (100,065); 131,191 Eritrean refugees primarily in Kassala (103,340), Gedaref (13,840), and Khartoum (9,275) states; and 73,448 Ethiopian refugees, primarily in Gedaref (49,944), and Blue Nile (9,688) states. Other refugee population groups also include those from Burundi, Chad, Central African Republic, Congo, Yemen and Syria. Of the 1.14 million refugee population, 38% reside in camps and 62% in out-of-camp and urban settings. To ensure access to timely protection and lifesaving assistance, UNHCR and partners have delivered multi-sectoral response targeting vulnerable refugee communities across Sudan, informed and monitored partly by this Multi Sector Needs Assessment which feeds to the Country Refugee Response Plan. This study gathers information about location, documentation, livelihoods, displacement status, nutrition, access to WASH facilities, shelter, information, and accountability of refugees in Sudan. This dataset is the anonymized version of the original data.

The purpose of the 2022 Sudan Multi-Sector Needs Assessment (MSNA) is to provide household data on the priority humanitarian needs of populations in States around Sudan. The findings intend to provide timely updates on key sectoral needs to inform humanitarian response and strategic programming for non-displaced, and IDP households. The 2022 MSNA will inform the 2023 Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO) and the 2023 Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP). Data was collected through structured household interviews using the KOBO data collection package. Findings are representative at the state level with a confidence interval of 98% and a 5% margin of error. The MSNA data is a relational dataset

This master list of health facilities was developed from a variety of government and non-government sources from 50 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. It uses multiple geocoding methods to provide a comprehensive spatial inventory of 98 745 public health facilities. Each data record represents a health facility and has 8 descriptive variables – Location identifiers including: country, first level administrative division, latitude, longitude and LL source (source of the coordinates). Coordinates are rounded off to four decimal places for uniformity, allowing an accuracy of 5–10 metres in decimal degrees coordinate format. This geocoded master facility list has been made publicly and freely available through both the figshare repository and through the World Health Organization’s Global Malaria Programme in Microsoft Excel format.

Protracted and new displacements of large numbers of people as well as complex conflict dynamics continue to be a major issue in Darfur. In 2020, an estimated 2.5 million people were internally displaced and close to 400,000 Darfuris refugees resided in neighbouring countries. The political transition following years of conflict paved the way for the signing of the Juba Peace Agreement (JPA) in 2020. The peace agreement aims to address the root causes of conflict but also establishes durable solutions for displaced populations as a necessity for lasting peace in Darfur. In 2021, the Government furthermore initiated work on a National Strategy on Solutions, which will offer a critical strategic framework and operational roadmap towards solutions for displaced communities in Sudan. In 2017, the Government of Sudan (GoS) and the international community agreed on the need to collectively support Durable Solutions for IDPs, returnees, and their host communities to end the situation of protracted displacement. The collaboration on Durable Solutions between the GoS and international community resulted in two Durable Solution pilots in respectively El Fasher (North Darfur) and Um Dukhun (Central Darfur). JIPS provided technical support for the scale-up of the durable solutions analysis across Darfur under the Central Emergency Relief Fund (CERF). Focusing on nine localities, including urban areas, the data collection exercises build directly on the durable solutions analysis approach piloted in El Fasher in 2019. The Durable Solutions Working Group (DSWG) identified a joint evidence base and a collaborative approach as priorities and therefore undertook a joint area-based profiling exercise, focusing on the Abu Shouk and El Salaam IDP camps on the outskirts of El Fasher. The focus was set on profiling of IDPs (in camp settlements and out of camps), IDP returnees, refugee returnees, and non-displaced. The profiling exercises are aimed at: i.Informing CERF programming and Action Plan development in each state/locality; ii.Provide the baseline of the agreed upon CERF outcome/output indicators (for later measurement of impact); and iii.Inform broader UNHCR programming beyond the Fund.
