This dataset is part of the data series [?]: IOM - DTM Baseline Assessment
Dataset has IDPs, Households, challenges faced by IDPs etc. On 11-13 April, severe flooding and landslides caused by heavy rainfall affected southern and south-eastern South Africa. In response to the need for accurate information on internally displaced persons (IDPs) in South Africa, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in partnership with the South Africa Red Cross Society and in coordination with provincial and local authorities, deployed teams from June 2022 to conduct baseline assessments at ward level. The project is supporting the Government of South Africa and other humanitarian response partners to conduct IDPs assessments in a systematic way as well as to establish a profile of the IDP population.

The UNHCR Results Monitoring Survey (RMS) is a household-level survey on persons of concern (PoC) to UNHCR directly or indirectly assisted by UNHCR, including refugees and asylum seekers, internally displaced persons, returnees, stateless and others of concern. The objective of the survey is to monitor impact and outcome level indicators on education, healthcare, livelihoods, protection concerns, shelter, and water and sanitation. The results contribute to an evidence base for reporting against UNHCR’s multi-year strategies to key stakeholders. The RMS can be implemented in any operational context. A standard structured questionnaire has been developed for the RMS, which can be conducted as a stand-alone survey or flexibly integrated with other data collection exercises. The data includes indicators collected at both the household and individual (household-member) level, and results are statistically representative. This RMS took place in South Africa between April and June 2022. The population of interest included all PoCs to UNHCR in South Africa, and the sample frame was taken from UNHCR's registration datasase (ProGres). Data subjects were intereviewed over the phone. This dataset is the anonymous version of the original data.

This dataset is part of the data series [?]: UNHCR - Livelihoods Programme Monitoring Beneficiary Survey
The UNHCR Livelihoods Monitoring Framework takes a program-based approach to monitoring, with the aim of tracking both outputs and the impact of UNHCR dollars spent on programming (either via partners or through direct implementation). The process for developing the indicators began in 2015 with a review of existing tools and approaches. Consultations were held with governments, the private sector, field-based staff and civil society partners to devise a set of common, standardized measures rooted in global good practices. Since 2017, a data collection (survey) has been rolled out globally, and the participating operations conducted a household surveys to a sample of beneficiaries of each livelihoods project implemented by UNHCR and its partner. The dataset consists of baseline and endline data from the same sample beneficiaries, in order to compare before and after the project implementation and thus to measure the impact. NOTE: We plan to no longer update this dataset after May 22 2022. These data sets are intended to inform researchers and public health experts about how populations are responding to physical distancing measures. In particular, there are two metrics, Change in Movement and Stay Put, that provide a slightly different perspective on movement trends. Change in Movement looks at how much people are moving around and compares it with a baseline period that predates most social distancing measures, while Stay Put looks at the fraction of the population that appear to stay within a small area during an entire day. This dataset is part of the data series [?]: GRID3 - Settlement Extents
Settlement extents are polygons representing areas where there is likely a human settlement based on the presence of buildings detected in satellite imagery. Settlement extents are not meant to represent the boundaries of an administrative unit or locality. A single settlement extent may be made up of multiple localities, especially in urban areas. Each settlement extent has an associated population estimate. Provided is information on the common operational boundary that the extent fully resides within along with their associated place codes (PCodes). The data are in geodatabase format and consist of a single-feature class. This work has been undertaken as part of the Geo-Referenced Infrastructure and Demographic Data for Development (GRID3) programme. The programme is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the United Kingdom's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. It is implemented by the Flowminder Foundation, WorldPop at the University of Southampton, the United Nations Population Fund, and the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) at Columbia University. This dataset is part of the data series [?]: UNHCR - Post-Distribution Monitoring of Cash-Based Intervention
UNHCR increasingly uses Cash-Based Interventions (CBIs) as a preferred modality for delivering assistance, offering greater dignity and choice to forcibly displaced and stateless persons in line with UNHCR's core protection mandate. To ensure the cash assistance provided meets the intended programme objectives and that desired outcomes are achieved, UNHCR and its partners conduct regular post-distribution and outcome monitoring. Post-Distribution Monitoring (PDM) is a mechanism to collect feedback on the quality, sufficiency, utilization and effectiveness of assistance. The underlying principle behind the process is linked to accountability, as well as a commitment to improve the quality and relevance of support provided, and related services. In 2020, through its partners Adonis Musati Project, Future Families, Refugee Social Services and Hand in Hand Development, UNHCR Southern African Multi-Country Office (SAMCO) provided multi-purpose cash (including for food, accommodation, household and hygiene items) to the most vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers in South Africa for a limited period of time (1 - 3 months) per individual, however, assistance could be extended after a re-assessment. The aim of the assistance was to focus essentially on life-saving and life-sustaining measures to vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers' needs. The CBI PDM was implemented by the partners after the intervention in their area was complete.

This dataset contains excess mortality data for the period covering the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic. The data contains the excess mortality data for all known jurisdictions which publish all-cause mortality data meeting the following criteria: daily, weekly or monthly level of granularity includes equivalent historical data for at least one full year before 2020, and preferably at least five years (2015-2019) includes data up to at least April 1, 2020 Most countries publish mortality data with a longer periodicity (typically quarterly or even annually), a longer publication lag time, or both. This sort of data is not suitable for ongoing analysis during an epidemic and is therefore not included here. "Excess mortality" refers to the difference between deaths from all causes during the pandemic and the historic seasonal average. For many of the jurisdictions shown here, this figure is higher than the official Covid-19 fatalities that are published by national governments each day. While not all of these deaths are necessarily attributable to the disease, it does leave a number of unexplained deaths that suggests that the official figures of deaths attributed may significant undercounts of the pandemic's impact.

Under the leadership of UNDP and DCO, an inter-agency task team developed the UN framework for the immediate socio-economic response to COVID-19 (adopted in April 2020) to govern its response over 12 to 18 months. To measure the UN’s support to the socio-economic response and recovery, UN entities developed a simple monitoring framework with 18 programmatic indicators (endorsed by the UNSDG in July 2020). Lead entities – based on their mandate and comparative advantage – were nominated to lead the development of methodological notes for each indicator and lead the collection of data at the country level. These lead entities reported through the Office of the Resident Coordinators the collective UN results on a quarterly basis through UN Info. All 2020 data was reported by March 2021. This is the UN development system’s first comprehensive attempt at measuring its collective programming contribution and results. These programmatic indicators enabled the UN system to monitor the progress and achievements of UNCT’s collective actions in socio-economic response. In support of the Secretary-General’s call for a "… single, consolidated dashboard to provide up-to-date visibility on [COVID-19] activities and progress across all pillars” all data was published in real time on the COVID-19 data portal, hosted by DCO. The data is disaggregated by geography (rural/urban), sex, age group and at-risk populations -- to measure system-wide results on the socio-economic response to the pandemic, in order to ensure UNDS accountability and transparency for results.
