Missing Migrants Project draws on a range of sources to track deaths of migrants along migratory routes across the globe. Data from this project are published in the report “Fatal Journeys: Tracking Lives Lost during Migration,” which provides the most comprehensive global tally of migrant fatalities since 2014. What is included in Missing Migrants Project data? Missing Migrants Project counts migrants who have died at the external borders of states, or in the process of migration towards an international destination, regardless of their legal status. The Project records only those migrants who die during their journey to a country different from their country of residence. Missing Migrants Project data include the deaths of migrants who die in transportation accidents, shipwrecks, violent attacks, or due to medical complications during their journeys. It also includes the number of corpses found at border crossings that are categorized as the bodies of migrants, on the basis of belongings and/or the characteristics of the death. For instance, a death of an unidentified person might be included if the decedent is found without any identifying documentation in an area known to be on a migration route. Deaths during migration may also be identified based on the cause of death, especially if is related to trafficking, smuggling, or means of travel such as on top of a train, in the back of a cargo truck, as a stowaway on a plane, in unseaworthy boats, or crossing a border fence. While the location and cause of death can provide strong evidence that an unidentified decedent should be included in Missing Migrants Project data, this should always be evaluated in conjunction with migration history and trends. What is excluded? The count excludes deaths that occur in immigration detention facilities or after deportation to a migrant’s homeland, as well as deaths more loosely connected with migrants´ irregular status, such as those resulting from labour exploitation. Migrants who die or go missing after they are established in a new home are also not included in the data, so deaths in refugee camps or housing are excluded. The deaths of internally displaced persons who die within their country of origin are also excluded. There remains a significant gap in knowledge and data on such deaths. Data and knowledge of the risks and vulnerabilities faced by migrants in destination countries, including death, should not be neglected, but rather tracked as a distinct category.

The United Nations peace Mission Mandates Dataset (UNPMM) is a dataset of all UN peace missions since 1948 and their mandates. It includes peacekeeping operations, special political missions, and good offices engagements. It codes the evolving mandate tasks of all the missions (direct references to the original text in the relevant UN Security Council resolution included on the website). It moreover classifies mandate tasks according to three categories: minimalist, moderate, or maximalist. Mandate tasks within the minimalist sub-category focus on ending violence in the short-term (e.g. ceasefire monitoring). Moderate mandate tasks focus on ending violence and promoting decent governance mechanisms (e.g. providing electoral assistance). Lastly, mandate tasks within the maximalist sub-category focus on addressing the root causes of conflict and institutionalizing governance mechanisms to peacefully resolve conflicts in the future (e.g. developing civil society capacity). The dataset also assigns an overall mission classification to all UN peace missions, following the same logic of minimalist, moderate, and maximalist missions. The UNPMM is available for download in json and excel formats. More resources are available on the project’s digital platforms (website: http://peacemissions.info; UN Peace Missions App on Apple Store and Google Play), including the UNPMM codebook, executive summaries related to each peace missions, language from the UN Security Council resolutions establishing each mandate tasks, and various analytical outputs. The UNPMM was established in the framework of the project ‘A Child of Its Time: The Impact of World Politics on UN Peace Missions’ led by Dr. Sara Hellmüller, hosted at the Geneva Graduate Institute and ETH Zürich, and funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation.

This dataset is part of the data series [?]: UN Peace and Security Data Hub - Peace and Security Data
The data is compiled and maintained by the United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld Library. The United Nations Security Council, established under the UN Charter, serves as the primary organ responsible for maintaining international peace and security. Comprising 15 Member States, including five permanent members with veto power (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States), the Security Council addresses global threats and conflicts through diplomatic means, sanctions, and, if necessary, the authorization of the use of force. This data contains a comprehensive repository of key information pertaining to presidential statements adopted by this crucial international body. A presidential statement is a statement made by the President of the Security Council on behalf of the Council, adopted at a formal meeting of the Council and issued as an official document of the Council.

Decisions often concern procedural matters such as elections, appointments, time and place of future sessions. They are sometimes also used to record the adoption of a text representing the consensus of the members of a given organ.

This dataset is part of the data series [?]: UN Peace and Security Data Hub - Peace and Security Data
Compiled by Dr Jessica Di Salvatore, Dr Magnus Lundgren, Dr Kseniya Oksamytna, and Dr Hannah M. Smidt as part of research project "Introducing the Peacekeeping Mandates (PEMA) Dataset" Drawing on UN Security Council resolutions that establish, extend, or revise mandates of 27 UN peacekeeping operations in Africa in the 1991–2017 period, the Peacekeeping Mandates (PEMA) dataset records 41 distinct tasks that can be assigned to UN peacekeeping operations, ranging from disarmament to reconciliation and electoral support. For each task, the PEMA dataset also distinguishes between three modalities of engagement (monitoring, assisting, and securing) and whether the task is requested or merely encouraged. The data visualization website is https://peacemandates.com. The website is searchable by task, mission, and year. For detailed information on data variables, definitions, and methodologies, find the codebook at dataverse.harvard.edu. Tasks: 1. Disarmament & Demobilization 2. Reintegration 3. This dataset contains the change in the cost of a food basket in relation to a previous period (Periods of 3 months). The change of the cost of basic food basket is calculated by comparing the seasonally adjusted cost of the food basket with the cost in the reference period (previous quarter or baseline), as percentage change. The change is considered normal when the percentage change is between 0 and 3%, moderate when it is between 3 and 10%, high when it is between 10 and 25%, and severe above 25%. Note that the countries included here only include those monitored by WFP.

This dataset includes an estimate of global drought annual repartition based on Standardized Precipitation Index. It is based on two sources: 1) A global monthly gridded precipitation dataset obtained from the Climatic Research Unit (University of East Anglia). 2) A GIS modeling of global Standardized Precipitation Index based on Brad Lyon (IRI, Columbia University) methodology. This product was designed by UNEP/GRID-Europe for the Project of Risk Evaluation, Vulnerability, Information & Early Warning (PreView). It was modeled using global data. Credit: UNEP/GRID-Europe. Understanding gender is essential to understanding the risk factors of poor health, early death and health inequities. The COVID-19 outbreak is no different. At this point in the pandemic, we are unable to provide a clear answer to the question of the extent to which sex and gender are influencing the health outcomes of people diagnosed with COVID-19. However, experience and evidence thus far tell us that both sex and gender are important drivers of risk and response to infection and disease. In order to understand the role gender is playing in the COVID-19 outbreak, countries urgently need to begin both collecting and publicly reporting sex-disaggregated data. At a minimum, this should include the number of cases and deaths in men and women. In collaboration with CNN, Global Health 50/50 began compiling publicly available sex-disaggregated data reported by national governments to date and is exploring how gender may be driving the higher proportion of reported deaths in men among confirmed cases so far. EbolaGeonode was a partnership platform for sharing geospatial data, analysis and maps related to the Ebola emergency response. The platform was intended to minimize the time that GIS analysts spend locating up-to-date data. Users were able to make maps on the fly, view metadata, and access the reports behind GIS layers. Curators worked to ensure that the layers were recent, clean, useful, and legally and technically open.
