  • Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC)
    Updated January 24, 2018 | Dataset date: Jan 1, 2009-Dec 31, 2013
Internally displaced persons are defined according to the 1998 Guiding Principles (http://www.internal-displacement.org/publications/1998/ocha-guiding-principles-on-internal-displacement) as people or groups of people who have been forced or obliged to flee or to leave their homes or places of habitual residence, in particular as a result of armed conflict, or to avoid the effects of armed conflict, situations of generalized violence, violations of human rights, or natural or human-made disasters and who have not crossed an international border. "New Displacement" refers to the number of new cases or incidents of displacement recorded, rather than the number of people displaced. This is done because people may have been displaced more than once. "People Displaced" refers to the number of people living in displacement as of the end of each year. Contains data from IDMC's data portal.

  • This data is old. Please go to ACLED Conflict Data for Africa Realtime ACLED conflict and protest data for African states from 1997 – December 2015 is available in Version 6 of the the ACLED dataset. Realtime data for 2016 is collected and published on a weekly basis, and will continue to be made available through the Climate Change and African Political Stability (CCAPS) website and on this page. Due to the realtime nature of data collection which results in occasional reporting lags, and/or insufficient detail in early event reports for inclusion in the dataset, a small number of events in the 2016 data pre-date this period. These have been coded and published for the first time in 2016 and do not duplicate any events found in the full published dataset. Data files are updated each Monday, containing data from the previous week. The data files below include a single running file for all 2016 data, with monthly files updated on an ongoing basis.

  • American Red Cross
    Updated December 18, 2017 | Dataset date: Feb 1, 2016-Oct 31, 2016
From February to October 2016, the American Red Cross and its local Red Cross partners completed an effort to extensively map areas within a 15-kilometer distance of the shared borders between Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. The goal of this work was to create an open and comprehensive dataset of communities for West Africa and to ensure that decision makers, humanitarian workers, and community stakeholders are better aware of water, sanitation, health, and community resources before and during the next crisis. To complete this mapping, the American Red Cross launched a mapping center in Guéckédou, Guinea, and used it as both a base of operations and a community engagement facility. Over 100 volunteers helped to complete a rapid assessment of the region, visiting over 7,000 communities by motorbike to complete a vulnerability survey with the village leader. Next, over 100 communities were selected for a round of detailed mapping, focusing on collecting the location and information about every water point, health facility and other community resource in the area. In addition, we led technical skills trainings and mapping events both in Guéckédou and across the region. ALL DATA EXCEPT FOR THE OpenStreetMap EXTRACTS ARE LICENSED AS CC-BY 4.0

EbolaGeonode was a partnership platform for sharing geospatial data, analysis and maps related to the Ebola emergency response. The platform was intended to minimize the time that GIS analysts spend locating up-to-date data. Users were able to make maps on the fly, view metadata, and access the reports behind GIS layers. Curators worked to ensure that the layers were recent, clean, useful, and legally and technically open.
