  • ACLED Conflict Data Project
    Updated July 19, 2017 | Dataset date: Jul 15, 2017
ACLED conflict and protest data for African states from 1997 – December 2016 is available in Version 7 of the the ACLED dataset. Realtime data for 2017 is collected and published on a weekly basis, and will continue to be made available through the Climate Change and African Political Stability (CCAPS) website and on this page. Due to the realtime nature of data collection which results in occasional reporting lags, and/or insufficient detail in early event reports for inclusion in the dataset, a small number of events in the 2017 data pre-date this period. These have been coded and published for the first time in 2017 and do not duplicate any events found in the full published dataset. Data files are updated each Monday, containing data from the previous week. The data files below include a single running file for all 2017 data, with monthly files updated on an ongoing basis.

  • This is the most complete and up-to-date open map of Sub-Saharan Africa's electricity grid network. This dataset serves as an updated and improved replacement for the Africa Infrastructure Country Diagnostic (AICD) data that was published in 2007. Coverage: This dataset includes planned and existing grid lines for all 43 continental Sub-Saharan African countries and Madagascar. The lines range in voltage from sub-kV to 700 kV EHV lines, though there is a very large variation in the completeness of data by country. An interactive tool has been created for exploring this data, the Africa Electricity Grids Explorer. The primary sources for this dataset are as follows: Africa Infrastructure Country Diagnostic (AICD) OSM © OpenStreetMap contributors For West Africa: West African Power Pool (WAPP) GIS database World Bank projects archive and IBRD maps There were many additional sources for specific countries and areas. This information is contained in the files of this dataset, and can also be found by browsing the individual country datasets, which contain more extensive information. Limitations: Some of the data, notably that from the AICD and from World Bank project archives, may be very out of date. Where possible this has been improved with data from other sources, but in many cases this wasn't possible. This varies significantly from country to country, depending on data availability. Thus, many new lines may exist which aren't shown, and planned lines may have completely changed or already been constructed. The data that comes from World Bank project archives has been digitized from PDF maps. This means that these lines should serve as an indication of extent and general location, but shouldn't be used for precisely location grid lines.

The Global Food Prices Database has data on food prices (e.g., beans, rice, fish, and sugar) for 76 countries and some 1,500 markets. The dataset includes around 500,000 records and is updated monthly. The data goes back as far as 1992 for a few countries, although most of the price trends start in 2000-2002.

  • ACLED Conflict Data Project
    Updated March 21, 2017 | Dataset date: Jan 1, 2017
ACLED makes its dataset of disaggregated conflict and protest data publicly available. A new version of the dataset is released annually, with data from the previous year and targeted quality review being added in each new version. Files for all countries are composed of ACLED events which indicate the day, actors, type of activity, location, fatalities, sources and notes for individual politically violent events. Please see the codebook for further details on conflict categories, actors, events and sources. The user guide provides guidance on downloading and reading files. ACLED data are presented in three forms: the first is an Excel for the entire African continent; the second is a corresponding shapefile of the African continent created from those data; the third format is an Excel file called “COUNTRY X” containing data disaggregated by country which occur in the named state’s territory (including foreign groups active in a state’s territory).
