This Excel file contains population projections for 2017 by the Yemen Central Statistical Organization. The projections are based off of 2004 Census data. The population figures are disaggregated by governorate and district levels, both containing p-codes. The data is further disaggregated by sex and age groups. Additional information on population figures that take into account internally displaced people and returnees in Yemen can be found here [https://www.humanitarianresponse.info/en/operations/yemen/protection] and is produced regularly by the Task Force on Population Movement.

The High Resolution Settlement Layer (HRSL) provides estimates of human population distribution at a resolution of 1 arc-second (approximately 30m) for the year 2015. The population estimates are based on recent census data and high-resolution (0.5m) satellite imagery from DigitalGlobe. The population grids provide detailed delineation of settlements in both urban and rural areas, which is useful for many research areas—from disaster response and humanitarian planning to the development of communications infrastructure. The settlement extent data were developed by the Connectivity Lab at Facebook using computer vision techniques to classify blocks of optical satellite data as settled (containing buildings) or not. CIESIN used proportional allocation to distribute population data from subnational census data to the settlement extents. The population data have been developed for 33 countries. Read more about the project here.

July precipitation anomalies from 2013–2016 for Sudan and South Sudan, which may have negatively affected agrarian populations during the lean season, are generated from NASA TRMM/TMPA 3P43 (Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission/Multi-Satellite Precipitation Analysis). These anomalies are available to analyze in relation local population estimates (WorldPop), reported conflict events and fatalities (Armed Conflict Locations and Events Data Project), food security classification (Integrated Phase Classification, Famine Early Warning Systems Network), and other sources for measuring crop access to water (Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Station data). Data were compiled by Maimouna Kante and Lisa Jordan.

Internally displaced persons are defined according to the 1998 Guiding Principles (http://www.internal-displacement.org/publications/1998/ocha-guiding-principles-on-internal-displacement) as people or groups of people who have been forced or obliged to flee or to leave their homes or places of habitual residence, in particular as a result of armed conflict, or to avoid the effects of armed conflict, situations of generalized violence, violations of human rights, or natural or human-made disasters and who have not crossed an international border. "New Displacement" refers to the number of new cases or incidents of displacement recorded, rather than the number of people displaced. This is done because people may have been displaced more than once. Contains data from IDMC's data portal.
