    IOM estimates a total cumulative number of 1,688,083 of foreign nationals across Sudan. Included in this figures are 1,129,090 refugees and asylum seekers as estimated by UNHCR and the Commission for Refugees, and 558,993 foreign nationals as identified by DTM field teams during data collection operations.5 This figure of foreign nationals is an assessment of population presence in targeted locations and is not meant as quotable figure for the whole of Sudan. Following data collection for Mobility Tracking Round Six, DTM field teams estimated that a total accumulative number of 558,993 foreign nationals (120,941 households) were located across in 708 locations, in 122 localities, across 17 states in Sudan.6 Overall, the majority of foreign nationals (including both DTM’s and UNHCR’s estimate) identifies South Sudanese as the largest population (73.5% of the total count). This is followed by Eritrean (10.0%), Ethiopian (7.1%), Syrian (5.5%), Central African (2.8%), Chadian (0.6%), and Yemeni (0.1%) – with other nationalities making up 0.4% of the population. Looking specifically at DTM field teams, the majority of foreign nationals identified by were South Sudanese nationals (79.5%), followed by Ethiopian (8.7%), Eritrean (6%), Central African Republic (4%), and Chadian (1%), among other nationalities (<1%).

    DTM estimates a total accumulative number of 775,570 foreign nationals (186,011 households) in 664 locations, in 131 localities, across 17 states in Sudan. 19% of the total foreign national caseload was identified in Kassala, followed by White Nile (15%) and West Kordofan (14%). South Sudanese constitute 69% of the total foreign population count, followed by Eritreans (17%), Ethiopians (9%), and Chadians (1%), among other nationalities (4%). The highest proportion of foreign nationals (an estimated 297,627 individuals, or 57%) arrived in Sudan before 2019. The lowest proportion of foreign nationals (an estimated 20,413 individuals, 4%) arrived in Sudan in 2020.

    Geographically, Round Four covers 1,742 locations in total – 639 locations in North Darfur, 295 locations in South Kordofan, 237 locations in West Kordofan, 123 locations in South Darfur, 111 locations in West Darfur, 79 locations in Blue Nile, 78 locations in Central Darfur, 48 locations in North Kordofan, 37 locations in Gedaref, 36 locations in East Darfur, 34 in Red Sea State, and 25 locations in Kassala.

    Mobility Tracking Round Three started in April 2021 with the expansion of DTM operations to North Kordofan state. Field teams revisited locations covered in Round One and Two, as well as new locations in Blue Nile state which were not covered in the previous rounds. In Round Three, enumerators visited locations across a total of 11 states.

    Data collection was carried out over a two-month period, concluding in late June, and followed by data cleaning and verification to produce the third round of results. Key informants included community leaders, government representatives, NGO and humanitarian aid workers, religious leaders and IDP representatives.

    Geographically, Round Three covers 1,538 locations in total – 704 locations in North Darfur, 232 locations in South Kordofan, 178 locations in West Kordofan, 102 locations in West Darfur, 100 locations in South Darfur, 74 locations in Central Darfur, 57 locations in Blue Nile, 37 locations in North Kordofan, 23 locations in East Darfur, 17 locations in Gedaref and 14 locations in Kassala.
