Methodology distributes current and historial shapefiles that characterize regions of program countries on the basis of IPC acute food security classification. These categories include: 1 - Minimal, 2 - Stressed, 3 - Crisis, 4 - Emergency, and 5 - Famine. The most recent Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) data sets can be found at: Information about the IPC can be found at:

1) Historical and current data for West Africa were obtained from (downloaded 23 April 2018). 2) Data were clipped by UN OCHA boundaries for Nigeria, obtained from HDX (downloaded 23 April 2018).

Caveats / Comments

Lisa Jordan assembled the Nigeria data set, but the original source is FEWS NET. Please acknowledge for present and historical data using the IPC system to classify acute food security. Consult FEWS NET or IPCInfo for documentation on appropriate display of IPC classes.
