Methodology

The MPI relies on the most recent data available (ranging from 2002 to 2014), mainly from two datasets that are publicly available and comparable for most developing countries: USAID’s Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) and UNICEF’s Multiple Indicators Cluster Survey (MICS). It also uses the World Health Organisation’s World Health Survey (WHS), and national surveys for six countries.

Caveats / Comments

In Winter 2014/2015, the Global MPI was updated for 17 countries. In total, it covers 110 developing countries, and 803 regions in 71 of these countries. The analysis is of data ranging from 2002 to 2014.
