Methodology

This dataset brings together data from a range of sources to provide a greater overall and comparative understanding of the current situation and context inside each district. The core indicators consist of key drivers (conflict, basic commodity prices, exclusion and marginalisation, and disrupted access to life-saving services and income sources) and their major expected humanitarian impacts (food insecurity, cholera). ACAPS tracks changes in these indicators and alerts the humanitarian community to emerging trends or risks that could overwhelm local coping mechanisms in Afghanistan, triggering a humanitarian emergency.

Caveats / Comments

This dataset has been given a ‘Medium’ reliability ranking by the ACAPS analyst team. The Afghanistan Analyst Hub recommends that this dataset is used only as a starting point. It will enable you to quickly access, examine and compare district level, cross-sectoral, quantitative and qualitative data. However, for operational decision making, we recommend you conduct follow up conversations with front line actors and conduct additional research to confirm and check findings.

Transcription errors are a major risk in data sets of this size, especially as some data has been entered manually. ACAPS conducted random quality checking of a sample of entries to try to limit errors. However, it is highly likely that errors remain. For sensitive analysis, we recommend you cross check findings with the source data.
