This dataset comes from the International Organization for Migration (IOM)'s displacement tracking matrix (DTM) publicly accessible API. This API allows the humanitarian community, academia, media, government, and non-governmental organizations to utilize the data collected by DTM. The DTM API only provides non-sensitive IDP figures, aggregated at the country, Admin 1 (states, provinces, or equivalent), and Admin 2 (smaller subnational administrative areas) levels. For more detailed information, please see the country-specific DTM datasets on HDX.

This dataset is part of the data series [?]: IDMC - Internal Displacement Updates
Conflict and disaster population movement (flows) data for Ukraine. The data is the most recent available and covers a 180 day time period. Internally displaced persons are defined according to the 1998 Guiding Principles as people or groups of people who have been forced or obliged to flee or to leave their homes or places of habitual residence, in particular as a result of armed conflict, or to avoid the effects of armed conflict, situations of generalized violence, violations of human rights, or natural or human-made disasters and who have not crossed an international border. The IDMC's Event data, sourced from the Internal Displacement Updates (IDU), offers initial assessments of internal displacements reported within the last 180 days. This dataset provides provisional information that is continually updated on a daily basis, reflecting the availability of data on new displacements arising from conflicts and disasters. The finalized, carefully curated, and validated estimates are then made accessible through the Global Internal Displacement Database (GIDD). The IDU dataset comprises preliminary estimates aggregated from various publishers or sources.

IOM conducted rapid representative surveys of the general population in Ukraine to gather initial insights into internal displacement and mobility flows, and to assess local needs. While Displacement Tracking Matrix tools are being established, this general population survey will serve as a preliminary source to identify areas with high humanitarian needs and to inform the targeting of response aiming to assist the conflict-affected population. The geographical scope of the survey covers all five macro-regions (West, East, North, Center, South, and the city of Kyiv). The probabilistic sample, representative at macro-region level, was constructed through a random‐digit‐dial (RDD) approach, and 2,000 respondents aged 18 and over were interviewed using the computer assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) method. Those currently outside Ukraine were not interviewed. Population estimates assume that children travel together with their adult guardians. The estimates rely on the UNFPA population data for Ukraine, agreed upon as the common population baseline by the humanitarian community.

The CoRA employs a multi-sectoral location-level assessment (MSLA) methodology conducted with local authority key informants at the settlement or city-raion level. The assessment is based on 20 indicators divided into five ‘drivers’: (1) livelihoods, (2) utilities and services (3) residential destruction, (4) safety and security, and (5) public life. The indicators describe the critical or minimum conditions required for sustainable return and reintegration in Ukraine. The scores of each indicator and driver are grouped into three categories: low, medium, and high severity of living conditions. For more information on the methodology, please refer to the full report. When requesting the dataset, please specify if you would like to receive the report as well.

"Internally displaced persons - IDPs" refers to the number of people living in displacement as of the end of each year. "Internal displacements (New Displacements)" refers to the number of new cases or incidents of displacement recorded, rather than the number of people displaced. This is done because people may have been displaced more than once. Contains data from IDMC's Global Internal Displacement Database.
