The Multi-Year Appeal (MYA) is the primary extra-budgetary instrument of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA). Voluntary funding through the MYA helps DPPA to lead the Secretary-General’s good offices and mediation efforts, provide political analysis, electoral assistance, and supports Special Envoys and Special Representatives of the Secretary-General in their efforts to foster inclusive dialogues and resolve conflicts. Two-thirds of MYA funding is unearmarked, which critically grants DPPA the flexibility to respond to acute needs and redirect resources as required. The MYA is guided by the Department’s 2023-2026 Strategic Plan. A new Appeal for 2023-2026 was launched to accompany the implementation of DPPA’s latest Strategic Plan, calling for a total of $170 million over four years. Voluntary funding helps DPPA to raise extrabudgetary funding for conflict prevention and conflict resolution and enables the Department to maintain crucial efforts in support of Special Political Missions (SPMs), providing political analysis as well as mediation and electoral support to a multitude of partners. The MYA is also an incubator of ideas and increasingly invests in new areas, such as innovation and new technologies or by helping expand on the interlinkages between climate change and peace and security challenges. It supports key thematic priorities of the Department, including women, peace and security. As a uniquely flexible tool, the MYA is positioned to seize opportunities and enable rapid responses in pursuit of DPPA’s conflict prevention, peacemaking and peacebuilding mandate. On average, two-thirds of contributions are unearmarked, providing DPPA with the flexibility to channel funding to where it is needed most. Activities funded by the MYA contribute directly to the achievement of SDGs, in particular SDG 5 (gender equality and women’s empowerment), 16 (peace, justice, and strong institutions), and 17 (partnerships). The dataset shall be updated biannually (July and December).

The Results-Monitoring Survey (RMS) was conducted by UNHCR South Sudan in the last quarter of 2022 to serve as a pilot tool for measuring country operations' results regarding internally displaced persons (IDPs). Using computer-assisted personal interviews, around 4,634 questionnaires were carried out proportionally across eight states. The target was IDPs in camps and non-camp settings, including hard-to-reach areas. A simple random sampling method was used to allow generalizability and minimize bias. The questionnaire was tailored to the local context while drawing from the standard RMS instrument. Sample sizes were calculated for states and counties based on displacement figures and partner presence. A 95% confidence level and 5% margin of error determined the state samples. The county samples used 90% confidence and 5% margins given the need for greater precision at lower administrative levels. Total target was 5,309 households, allocated proportionally. High response rate (97%) exceeded targets in some counties. The pilot provides baseline data on results indicators to track over time. Key aspects were representative sampling, localized questionnaire, sufficient sample size, and community access enabling quality data for ongoing monitoring.

The Global Violent Deaths (GVD) database integrates indicators on the major causes of lethal interpersonal and communal violence—intentional and unintentional homicides, killings in legal interventions, and direct conflict deaths—and combines them in a single violent deaths indicator. These indicators are also reported in a disaggregated format by the sex of the victim and perpetration mechanism, namely firearm killings. The GVD database tracks this information across 222 countries and territories worldwide yearly from 2004 and reports both crude counts and rates per 100,000 population. The input data is retrieved from reliable sources, such as governments, national and international organizations, trusted non-governmental organizations, and verified media outlets. Missing data points are estimated using the methods described in this document. The GVD database is updated annually by the Small Arms Survey, an associated programme of the Geneva Graduate Institute, which strengthens the capacity of governments and practitioners to reduce illicit arms flows and armed violence. This is done through three mutually reinforcing activities: the generation of policy-relevant knowledge, the development of authoritative resources and tools, and the provision of training and other services. The GVD database benefits from financial support from governments and organizations, and notably its core donors, who are publicly disclosed online. The Small Arms Survey follows rigorous procedures to ensure that the input data, the applied methods, and the results are of reasonable quality. Regions, sub-regions, countries, and territories are defined based on the classification system used by the UN Statistical Division (2013 revision), except for Kosovo, England and Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. Individual-level data: sex, age, education, health, employment * SIRA Dataset #3. This survey is part of a broader regional data collection effort across RRP countries, with a harmonized design to identify the most pressing needs of Ukrainian refugees in sectors such as protection, health, education, accommodation, and livelihoods. The SEIS is the direct successor of the Multi-Sector Needs Assessment (MSNA) conducted in Hungary and across the region in the past two years (2022 Hungary MSNA, 2023 Hungary MSNA). The 2024 Hungary SEIS was funded by UNHCR's Representation for Central Europe and developed in the RCF with contributions from partners and working group members. Scale Research carried out the data collection between May and June 2024, surveying 795 households, representing 1,824 household members among the refugee population from Ukraine. The survey included multi-sectoral questions at both individual and household levels.
