ASAP is an online decision support system for early warning about hotspots of agricultural production anomaly (crop and rangeland), developed by the JRC for food security crises prevention and response planning. The monthly hotspots data set is available below, but you can explore the hotspots on the ASAP Warning Explorer and access more contextual data on the downloads page. To learn more about the hotspots, refer to the warning classification methodology document.

This dataset contains Food Prices data for Ethiopia, sourced from the World Food Programme Price Database. The World Food Programme Price Database covers foods such as maize, rice, beans, fish, and sugar for 98 countries and some 3000 markets. It is updated weekly but contains to a large extent monthly data. The data goes back as far as 1992 for a few countries, although many countries started reporting from 2003 or thereafter.

Crop production is among the most extensive human activities on the planet – with critical importance for global food security, land use, environmental burden, and climate. Yet despite the key role that croplands play in global land use and Earth systems, there remains little understanding of how spatial patterns of global crop cultivation have recently evolved and which crops have contributed most to these changes. Here we construct a new data library of subnational crop-specific irrigated and rainfed harvested area statistics and combine it with global gridded land cover products to develop a global gridded (5-arcminute) irrigated and rainfed cropped area (MIRCA-OS) dataset for the years 2000 to 2015 for 23 crop classes. These global data products support critical insights into the spatially detailed patterns of irrigated and rainfed cropland change since the start of the century and provide an improved foundation for a wide array of global assessments spanning agriculture, water resource management, land use change, climate impact, and sustainable development No information provided

This dataset is part of the data series [?]: UNHCR - Mixed Movements Monitoring
The project considers five pairs of countries: the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)/Uganda, Ethiopia/Somalia, Lebanon/Syria, Myanmar/Thailand, and Pakistan/Afghanistan. Research was conducted with partners in the primary focus country of each pair of countries (the first mentioned). This research was attentive to the cross-border dynamics of the protracted displacement economy with the other countries in each pair (the second mentioned). A household survey approach comprising a baseline survey and one follow-up panel survey (except in Myanmar which only had the baseline survey) was a central part of this project’s research.   The 15 research locations (three each from the five primary focus countries) were purposively selected, making sure that both cities and camps providing refuge to the displaced are included, and that there is data for a sampling frame (i.e. a list of all households to be studied) and that the sites are accessible to the researchers. Locations were selected to avoid an exclusive focus on displaced people. In camps (which are exclusive to displaced people), a portion of the local community outside the camp was also surveyed. The purpose was to collect a survey dataset for intra- and cross-country comparisons. Focus groups informed the design of the initial survey instrument, ensuring that questions were as comprehensible as possible and relevant to the local context. The survey instrument comprised a core section that was used across all five countries, with short country- and location-specific additions to reflect the concerns of local stakeholders. The instrument was designed jointly by UK researchers and international partners in English and then translated by international partners into nine other languages. The survey was conducted using tablets and the open-source Kobo Toolkit software with multi-language capability. The questions covered standard short measures of: gender, age, multidimensional poverty and wellbeing, displacement/mobility history, livelihoods, social care, and other support including non-financial support. In addition to these household-level questions, individual questions were included for the respondents on attitudes about contacts with neighbors, collective organisation, sources of emotional support, and plans and hopes for the future. Questions shared across all countries have standard responses which maximise the potential for intra- and cross-country comparison of this dataset.  The survey considered the entire displacement-affected community. The baseline survey in 2021 included 14504 households selected randomly in each of the 15 locations. The selection of individuals from within a household to respond to the questionnaire was fully random, stratified by sex. Two years after the baseline survey, in 2023, 1779 households were re-surveyed in four countries (a repeat survey was not done in Myanmar).

This dataset is part of the data series [?]: IPC - Acute Food Insecurity Classification
The IPC Acute Food Insecurity (IPC AFI) classification provides strategically relevant information to decision makers that focuses on short-term objectives to prevent, mitigate or decrease severe food insecurity that threatens lives or livelihoods. This data has been produced by the National IPC Technical Working Groups for IPC population estimates since 2017. All national population figures are based on official country population estimates. IPC estimates are those published in country IPC reports. There is also a global dataset.

This panel survey data covers two waves of interviews (baseline in 2020 and endline in 2023) with refugee participants in livelihoods cooperatives in Ethiopia's Somali Region. The cooperatives focused on crop agriculture, meat-selling, solar energy, and prosopis/briquettes. The surveys gathered demographic, socioeconomic, and health data on the individual participants. Baseline had 515 respondents, endline had 394, with 77% overlap between the two waves. The data is not representative of the general refugee population in the region. It provides insights into livelihoods programming for refugees in Ethiopia.

The IGAD Regional Focus of the 2024 Global Report on Food Crises is the result of a collaboration between the Food Security Information Network (FSIN) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), a regional economic community that forms one of the building blocks of the African Union. It provides a comprehensive assessment of acute food insecurity and malnutrition in the eight IGAD countries as well as trends over time, key drivers and populations of highest concern based on a rigorous methodology. It also presents available data and information on forcibly displaced populations and includes a spotlight on the conflict in Sudan and a focus on pastoralism, deep-diving into important issues for the region.

This dataset is part of the data series [?]: UNHCR - Energy Monitoring Framework Survey
The UNHCR Energy Monitoring Framework takes a program-based approach to monitoring, with the aim of tracking both outputs and the impact of UNHCR dollars spent on programming (either via partners or through direct implementation). The process for developing the indicators began in 2015 with a review of existing tools and approaches and consultations with Government, Private Sector, field-based staff and NGO partners to devise a set of common, standardized measures rooted in global good practices. Dollo Ado district hosts Somali refugees in five refugee camps of Melkadida; Bokolmanyo, Melkadida, Kobe, Hilaweyn and Buramino. The first camp, Bokolmanyo was opened in Oct 2009 and followed Melkadida in 2010. In 2011, there was a major influx as a result of insecurity in Somalia, resulting in the establishment of Kobe, Hilaweyn, and Buramino camps in June 2011, August 2011 and November 2012 respectively. Refugees continue to arrive in small numbers since 2011. On 31 March 2018 (source: UNHCR ProGres) the total population is 217,494 with 21,010 under-five children. A joint UNHCR, WFP, ARRA, IMC and Humedica Standardized Expanded Nutrition Survey (SENS) was carried out in the five Somali refugee’s camps in Melkadida/Dollo Ado refugee camps from 20th March to 24th April 2018, with the main objective to assess the general health and nutrition status of refugees, and formulate workable recommendations for appropriate nutritional and public health interventions. A total of 1801 households were sampled.
