The Burundi: Results Monitoring Survey (RMS) - 2023 dataset provides comprehensive data on the conditions and changes in the lives of forcibly displaced and stateless persons in Burundi. This survey targeted asylum seekers, refugees, refugee returnees, and internally displaced persons (IDPs). The survey, which employed Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI), includes 811 household observations: 373 asylum seekers and refugees, 337 refugee returnees, and 101 IDPs. The RMS, developed by UNHCR and implemented by GNK Multiple Services, aims to assess the impact of multi-year strategies and interventions, serving as a vital tool for programming, advocacy, and strategic planning. The data collected is crucial for monitoring progress in health, nutrition, water, sanitation, protection, food security, education, and other key areas.

The survey sampled 796 households: 380 refugee households, 325 returnee households, and 91 IDP households, using a stratified sampling design. Data collection was carried out through face-to-face interviews using a structured questionnaire translated into French, Kirundi, and English, ensuring statistical representation across population groups. The survey was completed on December 18, 2022, and the results contribute to UNHCR's multi-year strategy, supporting evidence-based reporting to key stakeholders.

The Burundi 2019-2020 Socioeconomic Survey presents a detailed dataset on the socioeconomic conditions of refugees in Burundi. Conducted alongside the UNHCR's Verification Exercise, it leveraged the UNHCR and the Government of Burundi's database, selecting a systematic random sample. The survey utilized Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) for data collection, with questionnaires covering a wide range of topics like household characteristics, education, employment, and access to services. Initially conducted through in-person interviews, the survey adapted to phone interviews due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fieldwork involved three teams from mid-November 2019 to May 2020, with extensive training and supervision to ensure data quality. The questionnaire, primarily in English, was administered with interpreters when necessary. Additionally, uniform sample weights were estimated for each household based on their selection probability, and sensitivity checks were performed to validate the data's robustness. This dataset is crucial for understanding the complex socioeconomic dynamics faced by refugees in Burundi.
