This population count of Za'atari Refugee Camp, Jordan, provides information about the camp's current inhabitants, disaggregated by age, sex, block and district, date of arrival, area of origin and shelter type. The count was conducted by REACH in partnership with UNICEF, between December 2014 to January 2015, in order to provide up to date figures about the camp's inhabitants to influence the planning and delivery of assistance by humanitarian actors. The population count shows a total population of 78,086 Syrian refugees present in Za’atari. This is 7,954 less than the last population count of Za’atari camp, conducted in June 2014, which identified 86,040 people. You can explore this dataset further using the Za'atari Camp Population Count Interactive Dashboard. You can also download the [Summary of Key Findings from the Za'atari Camp Population Count, January 2015] (http://www.reachresourcecentre.info/system/files/resource-documents/reach_jor_report_zaatari_camp_population_count_february2015_1.pdf)

Data collected in Bangladesh between June-July, 2018. Their analysis contributed to the Xchange Foundation's “The Rohingya Amongst Us”: Bangladeshi Perspectives on the Rohingya Crisis Survey. The survey sample consisted of 1,697 Bangladeshi adults living in Teknaf (56%) and Ukhia (44%), the two southernmost subdistricts of Cox’s Bazar, and home to the majority of the Rohingya population.  The survey was conducted in Bengali with the use of a questionnaire distributed through an online data collection application across more than 71 (up to 97) villages. Respondents were provided with anonymity and verbal consent was ensured before proceeding with each survey. The results of the survey are generalisable to the total adult Bangladeshi population residing in Ukhia and Teknaf upazilas (on a 95% confidence level, the margin of sampling error was 2.37). Since August 2017, an estimated 728,306 Rohingya refugees have arrived in Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar District from Myanmar, bringing the total number of Rohingya refugees residing in Bangladesh to approximately 895,631. The rapid and massive increase of the refugee population, concentrated in the south of the district in Ukhia and Teknaf, has had an enormous impact on Bangladeshi host communities’ food security, economic vulnerability, market access, labour opportunities and environment. At the same time, the crisis has generated some positive impacts in terms of new labour and livelihood opportunities provided by the presence of a rapidly expanding humanitarian sector, and increased demand for goods and services by Rohingya themselves. The majority of available data on the host community populations of Ukhia and Teknaf pre-dates the current influx of refugees. While a number of post-influx assessments have included host community populations, the information they provide has significant limitations in terms of being able to serve as the basis for strategic prioritisation and decision-making. The assessment aims to identify the severity and geographical spread of acute needs within the host community population. Its primary audience is ISCG, sectors, sector partners, and humanitarian donors. In this respect, the long-term development needs of the population that are more likely to be met by government or development agency intervention are not the core focus of this assessment. Similarly, this assessment is not designed to assess the impact of the August 2016 refugee influx on the host community (though may serve as a point of triangulation for actors wishing to do so).

The current literature on energy access highlights energy deprivation on a regional or country basis, but frequently neglects those outside of national energy agendas such as refugees and displaced people. To fill this gap and to help inform future analysis, we used an end-use accounting model for energy consumption for cooking and lighting by displaced populations to create this dataset. The data includes three high-level scenarios for improving access to energy for cooking and lighting. There is a strong human, economic, and environmental case to be made for improving energy access for refugees and displaced people, and for recognising energy as a core concern within humanitarian relief efforts.
